Acer Aspire V3-551G 15.6-Inch Laptop - Black Amd A10 4600 2.3Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 500Gb Hdd, Dvdsm Dl, Lan, Wlan, Bt, Webcam, Amd Graphics, Windows 8 64-Bit Logo

I woke up this morning to see that the bottom right corner of the LCD screen on my laptop is considerably darker than the rest of the screen. It doesn't have any less picture quality than the rest of the screen but it's like it's on the lowest brightness setting while the rest of the computer is just fine. I've also noticed that while turning the monitor back on after turning it off that the corner is perfect like the rest of the screen for about half a second but then quickly fades back into a darkness. The screen is 15.6 inches and this dark area is probably engulfing about 2 or 3. I have tried plugging the computer into my TV using HDMI and the TV showed no sign of this dark spot. If anyone has any idea what this problem is why my monitor I'd love to know what's going on. Thank you.

SOURCE: partially dark screen

this sounds like a loose connection of your LCD back-light called the display inverter. squeezing, with your hand, the outer edge of the frame (NOT SCREEN) on the side affected could conform this.

SOURCE: acer laptop has developed a fully dark screen

I am assuming that you have tried switching from external monitor output and local monitor. There should be a hot key on the keyboard to switch it. Also, try looking to make sure the driver for the display is up to date. I f it was update recently try rolling the driver back. If you need help with doing any of this post a comment. Hope this has helped some.

SOURCE: The laptop screen turned a funny orange color on

Check it on an external monitor to see if the video card is good. If the external works, then the LCD or backlight is bad. Look with a flashlight. If there is a very dim image, then it is probably the backlight. If no image, then the LCD.

IH252 inc monitor bottom half darker than top.

Thin screen LCD monitor brightness controls operate several fluorescent lamps called "backlights" that are positioned behind the LCD display. Typically, they're located around the edges of the screen - sometimes just at the top and bottom, and other times at the left and right edges and others still at all 4 edges.

Fluorescent "backlight" lamp, inverter & connection wiring.

The lamps are miniature versions of those sold in stores. They require a support circuitry called an inverter that convert & boosts the level of DC to AC voltage performing the functions of a ballast in a traditional fluorescent fixture.

The reason a part of your screen remains dark is because one or more of the components in the picture above has failed and will not allow the lamp to shine. Replacement lamps and inverters aren't expensive - but requires patience and the ability to disassemble / assemble the monitor (which is usually harder to do than it appears) and solder. They are available various lengths and color temperatures (you must get a lamp that is identical or it will be noticed). If this is a new monitor - you ought to return it for replacement. If used, consider the cost of purchasing a replacement (new or used) vs. repair.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I have a dark shadow on the bottom right corner of my new laptop

OK Mel, it's your dime.

The LCD screen is bad. It may be just the Backlight, but since you purchased this baby new; it will have LED backlighting. There is NO replacing the backlighting, there is ONLY replace the LCD screen.

Primer if I may;

An LCD screen does not produce light.

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NA_Optical/Systems/BehindTheScenes/Optics101/

(Click on the monitor image)

An LCD screen needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or two of them), or a series of LED's.
(Light Emitting Diode)

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. (Bulb)
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch. (-> O <- approximate thickness)
Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height.

General example,

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/

(View the last 8 photos)

Newer laptops like yours use a series of LED's.

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity), from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

LED backlighting does NOT use a screen Inverter.

When an LCD screen that uses LED backlighting, has problems with the backlighting, the entire LCD screen is replaced as a unit.

Is the problem with the LCD screen itself? Could be. The entire LCD screen is replaced. Either way, replace LCD screen.

Now,....the above is just GENERIC information.
I need the laptop manufacturer name, and model number. The model number may be on the Palm Rest Cover, to the right of the Touchpad.
It WILL be on the bottom of the laptop.
Post back in a Comment.

This way I can see if there is a link to give you for a free Service Manual, and perhaps some pictorial information also.
Then I will guide you step by step, and we'll get that LCD screen replaced.

It isn't hard at all, I assure you. YOU CAN do it.

Regards, joecoolvette

(Psst, they don't have them anymore because it was a special sale.
Whoever the laptop manufacturer is, though; is obligated to repair it. Kinda hard to get them to replace the entire laptop. DOES happen though.

Laptop was like that from the factory. Is not the consumer's problem, is the factory.

I don't care if it came from Best Buy, Tigerdirect, Newegg, or your uncle; the FACTORY is obligated to repair it. DOES NOT matter if it was a Black Friday sale, Christmas sale, or an Easter Egg hunt.

DO understand about the time frame thing, though. Plus DO commend you for your willingness to repair. It is people like you that built the world, not sat by and watched)

My computer screen in the corner is very bright and all the rest is darker. How can I fix it?

Unless you know how to replace the back light in a LCD screen (assuming it's a LCD) you can't. Take it to a repair shop.
