My laptop (dell inspiron 1300) seems to be struggling with a wireless internet connection in my home. The wireless router and the modem seem to be working fine but my computer couldn't even connect reliably to my router with it inches away yesterday. Is this a failing nic card, or are there other possibilities I should be aware of?
Nothing else running wirelessly. My desktop is wired to the router, but that is all that is running (and a Wii, I forgot about it). It is a WPA secured network with a password that I doubt anyone would get.
I have not checked my NIC drivers though. How could I do that?Nothing else running wirelessly. My desktop is wired to the router, but that is all that is running (and a Wii, I forgot about it). It is a WPA secured network with a password that I doubt anyone would get.

Do you have any other computers running wirelessly? is your wirless network secured? if you have other computers in the house on the network they may be taking up the signal or someone is hopping onto your network. I have you downloaded the latest drivers for your NIC? Do you have any 2.4MHz cordless phones in the house or is the computer near a microwave? those two items can cause interference. You can go to Dell.com, go to support then download drivers/software, enter in your service tag is best if you know it? find the network card driver and download it. You can find out which NIC card you have by going to my computer, system, then device manager and right click on the NIC, then properties, it will tell you what card you have.

Limited connectivity If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router. To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair. This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.

no you dont you have wireless capability on your laptop. just turn on your wireless, click on it and it will show you all internet connections just click on your router name and it will connect. same when your away hotel will tell you their router name or (ssid) as its called.
This can happen when both the wireless router and the laptop are powered up together. The laptop boots up before the wireless router can issue the laptop with an IP address. When you click Repair the LAN card requests a new IP address from the router and then the laptop can connect to the Internet.
I get this problem sometimes and then I have to click Repair.
Try leaving the wireless router powered up or power up the wireless router first. I suggest rebooting the wireless router approx. once a week, the wireless router will then be issued with a new IP address from your ISP, this makes it difficult for hackers to hack into your wireless router/network.
run system restore first. try to restore to the point where the wireless was still working. if fails then uninstall then reinstall the wireless driver. if fails try to reseat the wlan card.
Hi! I would like to thank you for this chance at solving a problems. The first problem seems like an easy fix. As for the second one, I would definitely need more information about the router (IE. make and model).
Issue #1 Please download the driver from here. Run the setup and be sure to follow any instructions during setup.
Issue #2 Pending more information.

So u can connect to the router, but you arent allowet to access the internet?
The router gave your dell a new ip-number, but it dident gave you access to the net. You ned to do the settings in your router manual, let the router give your dell full access.
