Ge dryer squeeking

if the squeeks are coming from the tub while turning. it may be the front tub glides. but the dryer will need to come a part to fix them. good-day ! more possible symtoms-- Damaged Drum Wheels, Deteriorating Drum Bearing, Failing Idler Pulley Wheel, Loose Belt.

You will need to check the tub roller wheels. This is a common noise when the wheel bearings start to ware down. They are not expensive, and you should be able to do this yourself. Good Luck Friend.

I have experienced two problems with "loud squeeks" with the DPSR473EW. First, if you take the top off (open door, remove two screws under top door lip releasing the top), then.., remove two small screws (inside up high - one on each side) holding the front panel/door assembly on. Pull the front panel/door assy away from the main unit - can't seperate due to some wires near the blower. On the door/front panel assy..., you will see four "teflon slides" that fit into a plastic semi-circular assy (the drum rides on those four teflon slides). Most of the time, this is where the squeeks come from - I've seen them worn thru..., and the drum riding on the plastic (just order the teflon slides - qty 4 - WE1M333). If the plastic piece that the slides fit into is worn, replace it - WE2M26 (top bearing). This should do it. If the slides look OK (so the squeek hasn't been fixed), the other place for a squeek is...., the back bearing. This bearing is basically a male rotating plastic sleeve running in a metal female hole. I have seen those wear thru the plastic bushing..., causing lots of noise. To inspect that bearing, you will need to a) remove the belt (plenty of instructions on the internet), then b)remove the drum..., then..., you can inspect that back bearing (two pieces - one piece on the back of the drum, the female piece mounted on the heater shroud.. If you need to replace that bearing, or one half of it - you can order pn WE25M40 - it will have both pieces. Good Luck

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication

If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If the rollers don't have flat spots on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

it sounds like a drum support roller is going bad or the belt idler pulley. i think maytag has a kick panel on the bottom that can be removed. look inside with a flashlight and you may be able to see something. if not, you may have to take the drum out to get a really good look. make a note and study how the drive belt serpentines around the motor, pulley, and drum so you can get it back together.

The drum belt is slipping or a support wheel bearing is worn.  Spray some belt dressing on the belt or replace the belt.  Lubricate the wheel bearing or replace it.  It is also possible that the seal between the drum and the housing (at the back) is worn and the drum is rubbing metal-to-metal on the housing.

Rollers
Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time. 


Idler pulley
Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it. 


Glides
Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them. 


Rear drum bearing
Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.


Blower wheel
Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

Replace all the drum rollers. You have to remove the belt and drum to get to them. Are you fixing this yourself? Let me know if this helps you and thank you for using FixYa!

you have a whirlpool made kenmore dryer , there are 3 moving parts that can be making this noise , the belt tensioner and 2 wheels that the drum rolls on .
to get to these parts you go into the front of the unit. start by removing the 2 screws on the top where the lint screen inserts. then get a flat screwdriver to pry the top of the dryer away from the door panel it should have clips holding it down on both sides of the front.
after that you can see the drum with the top open like a hood of a car , look inside there are 2 screws holding each corner of the front of the dryer , they are 5/16 hex heads , remove these screws and the entire front door panel will come loose , pull the panel upward to release the lower clips holding it.
Now that this panel is removed look under the drum to see how the belt is held so you can put it back correctly , after removing the belt pull the dr om out and you will see the wheels , you can use motor oil to oil the center of the wheels and the belt tensioner. to get the drum back in set it on the wheels and roll it untill it falls into place and reassemble the rest if you have any other questions let me know and tell me how it works out.

most likely source of sqeak fornt front glides or rear bearing, the front glides can be seen be removing the front panel, 4 plastic strips the tub rests on and spins across, they will look worn or even missing if thats the casse( they simply twist on) as far as the rear bearing ,,a.k.a. "top hat" , for it looks liek a top hat, the drum is simply pulled foward and out of rear post and the bearing can be reinstalled without even removeing the belt form the pulley
