Where is shift log feature in sharp EL-531 W calculator

You cannot solve linear equations on a SHARP EL531. If you would like a calculator that solves equations, you need to get a SHARP EL W506

You can compute the logarithm of x to any base by computing log(x)/log(b) or ln(x)/ln(b). So, press
ln . 2 5 / ln 2 = or
log . 2 5 / log 2 =

Regardless, that is the markings on the SHIFT key on Sharp Calculators. The 2ndF key accesses the functions that are marked on the face of the calculator, not on the top of the keys.

Press the log key, enter a poistive number and press the = key.
To calculate the inverse of the decimal log use SHIFT LOG to access the function 10^x (the inverse of the log function.)

The conversion formula is
# dB =10*log(Pout/Pin) for say an amplifier.
For your case
Pout/Pin= 10^4 then #dB =10*log(10^4)=10*4=40 dB

Let us take a less obscure exemple

# dB= 57.39, what is the power ratio?
10*log(Pout/Pin)= 57.39
log(Pout/Pin)=57.39/10=5.739
Pout/Pin=Ratio =10^(5.739)= 548276.9649, not a number you would hear or see quoted, but a correct value.

To calculate the power ratio

1. Convert the decibels in Bels (divide by 10)
2. While the number just calculated is still in Answer memory (ANS), press [SHIFT] [LOG] to access the the 10^x function
3. Press [SHIFT][(-)] to enter (ANS)
4. Close the parenthesis [)]
5. Press [ENTER]

The factorial function is shown on you calculator as n! To calculate factorial 4 you proceed as follows 4[2ndF][n!][=] this gives 24
