Assuming the connection to the laptop has been physically made correctly and that your previous optical drive had the same problem. The motherboard of the laptop may be faulty in the way that the IDE channel may not be recognising any devices. Put your old drive back in to make sure it isn't a fault with the motherboard. It may be that it's a rare compatibility problem, or the interface of the NEC 6650 is different to that of your current optical drive. Failing all this. Reset your bios to the defaults.

How to install now os on my nec laptop and could not damage my laptop

To install a new OS like windows 7/Vista/XP set your laptop to boot from CD/DVD in BIOS put the disk in and boot your laptop then follow the on screen instructions. This will normally wipe the hole laptop unless you are planing on dual booting in this case you will need a free partition or hard drive to install the 2nd OS and it normal cases have the lower OS installed 1st

Can't load spectra II on my new mac pro

The SpectraView II software included with my NEC LCD3090WQXi display was version 1.1.02. Snow Leopard requires version 1.1.03. I downloaded the new software from the NEC website, installed it and now everything is working fine.

Cd/dvd drive device is broke

There is a reason most DVD readers, writers are so cheep is because they are warranted for 1 year. If you're NEC is less than a year old & you have a recipt you can send it back to NEC for a new one. If you need another DVD player to replace a bad DVD drive & want to buy one, I can suggest a couple.

It would not hurt to install the firmware for you're current DVD drive. This might breath life back to the drive. (Might)! Nothing to loose. Download the firmware from this link: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIRMWARE/Nec/Nec-ND-6500A-firmware-424.shtml

Good Luck!

DVDwriter on a toshiba satellite pro 4600?

I've got a DVD burner installed some time ago in a Satellite Pro 4600. To do this you have to have the right settings regarding Master and Slave - as far as I can remember a Master drive is needed. To get a 6500A NEC drive running I had to solder two pins together in order to get it recognized as a Master drive on the second IDE controller; you can find a pretty good explanation at http://www.dschen.de/laptop_brenner/ (sorry, all German but perhaps the images might help). So, before you buy a new drive make sure you get one that is already set as a Master - ask your dealer! Sometimes a new firmware could do the same.
After setting the drive to Master I have used it on Linux without any problems so far...
