Harddrive self test

When i run a Hard Drive Self Test in the BIOS it comes up to "failed #1-07" what does this number mean, and is this problem a 100% hard drive failure, or could it be the motherboard or some other hardware that is causing it? anyone know what "that code" means for hard drive failure. Thank You

I did a google search to see what results I would get for your request "failed #1-07 none of them who enquired to this problem spoke of the number that came up for you?. But they spoke about not being able to BOOT up to Windows in fact all of them said it!. Thats normally a BIOS update needed. But there was one other person who gave this message which might suit you wellllll at least it wont harm you he said this "Download the diagnostic utility from the HD maker and see what exactly is wrong."

I cannot find anything on this, it may be a fault code because the self test didnt report back correctly, if you are able to boot into windows, right click on your c drive, properties and click tools, then run a check to see if there are any bad sectors or system files.

It said problem on hard disk, install hard disk.. how to install where to get it my netbook has no dvd/cd compress HP mini

Hi,
Many computer problems are related to soft failures on the hard drive. The comprehensive portion of the HP Hard Drive Self Test repairs soft errors on the hard drive, but does not report the errors. After the test completes, be sure to restart the computer to determine if the test repaired any problems you are experiencing with your computer. If the computer has two hard drives, you should select the multi-bay test option and test each drive separately.
  1. Plug the AC Adapter into the computer.
  2. Turn off the computer and wait 5 seconds.
  3. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the f10 key to enter the BIOS Setup menu.
  4. Use the Right Arrow or Left Arrow keys to navigate through the menu selection to locate the Primary Hard Drive Self Test option. Depending on your BIOS, this may be located below either Diagnostics or Tools .
  5. Select Primary Hard Drive Self Test , and then press the Enter key to start the test. NOTE: The exact wording of the option for your particular BIOS may be slightly different.
The Hard Drive Self Test performs a Quick Test followed by a Comprehensive Test . During each test, the window displays a status bar and an estimated time to completion. See HP Notebook PCs - Testing a Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test for additional information.
  • If any test fails , contact HP service and support for instructions on how to order a replacement hard drive.
  • If all of the tests pass, the hard drive is not damaged. As a rule, HP will not replace a hard drive under warranty that does not fail the HP Hard Drive Self Test.
  • If there is no physical problem with the hard drive or memory, then try reinstalling your Windows operating system to troubleshoot the problem.

I was wiping the hard drive when the laptop

Please come back to us with the exact error if you get any.

However, how you are performing recovery. Using recovery manager or recovery discs?

If you are using recovery manager, please perform hard drive self test and check with the result.

Hard drive self test steps:

1. Turn Off the notebook.
2. Turn ON the notebook and keep tapping F10 key
3. Once you are in BIOS, navigate to tools/diagnostics tab with the help of left and right arrow key.
4. You will find Primary HDD self test or HDD self test.
5. With the help of up and down arrow key select the respective test and hit enter.
6. Short test will take only 4-5 minutes. However, long test may take 40-60 minutes.

If the hard drive is fine, try to perform recovery using recovery discs....

If still the problem exists try with different discs.

If the hard drive fails replace the hard drive.

Hope this will work for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Computer will only start in safe mode hp cue root and hp help and restore are not working? what is the best resolution? hard drive failure?

I have included some directions from HP about using an embedded Hard drive test. This is done using the BIOS. Try this to rule out a hard drive problem. This is supposed to also repair some hard drive issues. Then, we can go from there.

17 inch monitor goes blank

  • Prepare to diagnose the computer .
    1. Disconnect all peripheral devices.
    2. Perform a Hard Reset.
    3. Disable the Automatic restart on system failure option.
  • Remove any non-system disc from the computer . During startup, the BIOS checks different devices to locate the Windows operating system. If the boot order is set to check the optical disc drive or the card reader (if the notebook is equipped with a card reader) before it checks the hard drive, and there is a non-system disc in the CD/DVD drive or there is a memory card in the card reader, the boot will fail. This problem can be resolved by setting the BIOS to check the hard drive first.
  • Reseat the memory modules . If you are getting memory errors, most BIOS versions have additional tests that can be run to test the memory. There could be a problem if one of the sticks is defective or loose in the memory slots. To determine what is causing the memory failure, disconnect all electrical power, and then remove and re-insert the memory modules firmly into the slots. Some HP Notebook PCs come with two sticks of memory and have two memory slots. On most notebooks, the memory module compartment is located on the bottom of the case, but the exact position varies by model. On some models, the memory compartment is under the keyboard. See your User Guide for the exact location of memory modules on your notebook.
  • Reset the BIOS to default condition . If you have made changes in the BIOS setting, such as disabling a device or changing the boot order, it could prevent the computer form starting properly. To restore the BIOS to its factory-recommended settings, turn on the computer and press f10 to access BIOS setup, and then press f9 to load the default BIOS configuration.
  • Perform a memory self test . There are different reasons that you may see a memory error. There could be a physical problem or it could be a program error. If the error is a program error, you will most likely see a Windows error message. If there is a physical problem with a memory module, the computer may fail part way through the boot process. Most computers have a built-in memory test to help identify if the memory modules are seated properly and are free of errors. To run the memory test, turn on the computer and press f2 .
    • If the System Diagnostics screen displays, select the Start-up Test to run the system memory test. Press the Esc key once the memory test is complete.
    • If the BIOS Diagnostics screen displays, select Memory Test .
  • Reseat the hard drive . If you get a specific hard drive error message on a black screen indicating the hard drive error, reseat the hard drive. If the computer has been dropped or jarred, or the hard drive has been replaced recently, the drive may not be seated tightly. The hard drive LED should blink if the hard drive has a solid connection in the notebook. Refer to the on-line User's Guide for specifics on locating and removing / replacing a hard drive. HP provides video directions for performing this task for many computer models. Remove and reseat the hard drive firmly into the mounting bracket.
  • Test the hard drive . If you get a hard drive error message, you can test the hard drive. Many computer problems are related to soft failures (or degraded performance) on the hard drive. The HP Hard Drive Self Test will repair soft errors on the hard drive, but it will not report the errors. After the test is complete, restart the computer to see if test repaired the problem you may been experiencing. To run the hard drive test, turn on the computer and press f2 .
    • If the System Diagnostics screen displays, select the Hard Disk Test to run the hard drive test. Allow the Quick and Long Hard Disk Self Tests to run.
    • If the BIOS Diagnostics screen displays, select Primary Hard Disk Self Test . Allow the Quick and Long Hard Disk Self Tests to run.

    Laptop help

yes, may be the hard drive... so goahead and run a test on hard drive....

try going to bios setup.... from the main menu in bios... highlight the hard drive... maybe displayed in first drive, or second drive...push Enter... and from the list select an option smart self test...
There would be two test's one is smart self test and smart extented self test... first select the smart self test... it would go up to 5 min... if it is pass go to second test...ie., smart extended test...it would go upto an hour.

If first test fails... no need to run the second...directly replace the hdd... but if pass go to second.. and check the hard drive..

As you said you are using UBUNTU.... try install it again.. if hdd both test pass..
