Question about Epson Stylus Photo R200 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Red lines keep printing through all text of my print-outs. I've tried everything suggested in the manual such as cleaning and alignment an I still get red lines wherever there is text.

There is a spong that catches the ink when doing a head clean. I took some Q tips t soak up some of the ink from within the spong. Try to clean as much as you can from the spong. Even use a soft rag iif possible. You also may have to change the brand of ink that is being used.

WILL ONLY PRINT EVERY ALTERNATE LINE OF TEXT & TEXT BOX BORDERS

Doesn't sound like your printer hardware. Try printing something other than your text document. If the page comes out clean/perfect then it means your printer is having a problem understanding your text document via print program translation. Otherwise try converting your text to pdf and print a sample page, if it works then again problem with software/printer translation.

Red prints as Orange

If this is magenta being weak (light) on all the things you print (try doing a test pritn, and a configuration page from the printers own menu system). this will be the dirty laser lens/mirrors problem that is very common with this printer.

Solution is either

Dismantle (it IS quite a lot of work, but fairly straightforward methodical screwdriver work) the printer to remove the laser unit. Take cover off the laser unit and CAREFULLY clean the lenses and mirrors. NOTE take care not to disturb the alignment of any part of the laser optics, and be especially careful with the mirrors as they are surface silvered and V easily scratched.

You can find NEW laser units on a certain internet auction site, and also (genuinely) refurbished exchange printers. Both of these two opttions will obviously save time and effort, but be more expensive.

Printer Epson DX6000 ... all new cartridges .... will not print any text. I can print the head clean test page as well as the head alignment page ... but no text

You said all new cartridges.. But are they Epson Genuine Cartridges???? I had the same problem when I replaced with new, but generic cartridges.
After finally, going thru 2 sets of each, removed them and put in Genuine., and finally, everthing started printing fine. Weird , but true.
I suggested my answer problem below.

Problem for Epson Stylus C84 InkJet Printer
Re: C84 I'm using generic ink, but the red
By mclamemo on Nov 12, 2009 re: C84 I'm using generic ink, but the red doesn't work at all. I've done all the printer cleaning programs and swabbed inside the printer with alcohol, and re-inserted the cartridge multiple times. it still doesn't print at all.

Also now even the black every few lines prints the top half of the line or the bottom half of the line, or its smeared, etc...

Help!

I have learned from experience, that Epson does not like generic ink. You must use Epson Genuine Cartridges. Hopefully, you haven't screwed up the printer, like I did. I did try cleaning the heads and doing everything possible. Use 2 cartridges of ech set, for cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. ......But Nothing.
Had to go out and purchase a new printer.;

I have tried everything from head cleaning, nozzle checks, print head alignments to changing the printing setups to everything and anything I can think to help but no matter what I do, my pages keep...

I had the same problem. What you need to do is manually clean it. Take the ink cartridges out and clean the bottom of the ink loading bay with a Q-tip. Than, inside the printer, there is a black sponge that lines the area below the printing heads, take it out (gently). Clean it with water over a sink by squeezing it, but be gentle. A lot of ink should come out of the sponge. Once it is thoroughly cleaned, let it dry (I used a hairdryer than let it air dry for a little bit). Reinsert the sponge (make sure it is dry!) and ink cartridges. Do one head cleaning on the computer and now it should print like new.

Stripes on Images only - Text OK

Perhaps the CMY color heads need alignment. If you have not already done so, run a head alignment from the driver maintenance section. It will print out a page containing several lines and text, and request you select the closest-aligned images. After this is done, do another image print to check for improvements.
Normally, the printer uses the black cartridge for text and the CMY inks for images (even for black on photo and specialty paper). So when you are printing normal text pages on plain paper, only the black ink is used. A good check for this would be to print a normal text page, but select photo paper in the driver to trick the printer into using the CMY inks to make a substitute black text page. If this looks ok, then you are having issues other than cartridge alignment.
