The motor on my Sony Hi8 burnt out and was unrepairable. I now have several tapes that I want to transfer to my computer/DVD, but have no way of doing this. Does anyone know where I can either buy a camcorder either like the original one or one that will use the same tapes, or is there a VHS carrier tape where I can slot one of the Hi8 tapes into then run it through the VHS recorder?

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)

maybe I would buy your camera,
yes as far as I know hi8 and 8mm are completely different cameras,
where are you and how much for the camera?

Same problem, same frustration. Just flashing, won't open to insert tape, Battery relatively new. Is there any way to get it to open to put in tape? I hate this technology, not along far enough.
