After closing the microwave door, the inside light sometimes stays on, which means that the microwave does not start up. if you apply a little bit of pressure to the top right hand corner (where the mechanism is) the light goes off and the microwave starts.
However i don't want to kee doing this - is it teh seal or the mechanism which tells the microwave that the door is closed?
Thanks Glen
PS Actually its a H5972, not 5962 but this is all the drop down panel had which was closest
SOURCE: Microwave works with door open
If the top is open, the upper door switch should be open and the high voltage section should not be energized. That's the way it's *supposed* to work. But that buzzing is worrysome! Does the turntable turn during this condition? Does the inside light come on? How about the fan? If not, then I would doubt that it's cooking. If so, some models will do this. It's not uncommon to notice that the fan and light will try to come on for a split second when you shut the door. This would not indicate a problem. It has to do with the timing of the door switches and a replay on the board. If it's still under full warranty, it wouldn't hurt to call a GE-authorized servicer.

SOURCE: NEFF H5470NOGB Microwave door latch fault
theres a small plastic hook inside the door which holds a tension spring this will have snapped off stopping the latch from entering the lock its actually quite easy to fix the inner plastic frame can be unclipped with a small flat blade screwdriver exposing the hook mechanism and the spring will be lying in the bottom of the door frame you can reconnect it to the metal inner frame it stretches the spring a little more but it will never snap again ive done this loads of times with no probs otherwise you will have to replace the outer door to reinstate the broken hook.

SOURCE: Door will not close
is the little plastic pin sticking out from the inside of the door,if not it would need a door key fitted which is noit an easy job,if the door key there would probably have a problem with the switch kit.there is a pin which holds the door closed which can get snapped of .if this is the case the switch kit is about £70 - 90 AND IS not that easy to fit,if you have any more problems give me a text back
