I connected my DSC-S600 to my iMac OS10.3.9 and couldn't see the camera icon, and it didn't automatically go into auto download. I shut the computer off. Now I can get the camera icon on the desktop, but i Photo says there are no images on the camera. When I turn the camera on now, it says there is "No files in this folder." Will I be able to get all my pictures back? Do I need to reset my camera and start over?
Sorry my only answer is for windows but if the pictures are valuable........... First do not panic! It is possible to recover your pictures if you take care. Take the card from the camera (powered off)and if it has a "write protect" tab then lock it now. Do not try and write anything to the card or you risk causing more problems. If you are comfortable with using a PC then you can download a FREE utility that will recover your photos from the following link: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec If you need something a little more "user friendly" then you will need to buy the software. If you search the web for photo recovery software you will find many. One I have used successfully is RescuePro that used to be bundled with some Sandisk products. Now you can get it from the link below: http://www.lc-tech.com/software/rescuepr... You can try the demo to see what you can recover before buying. Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to the card until you can recovered your pictures to your PC safely! Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

I'll have to remember fixya.com next time I have a problem. Instead of trying to figure it out myself, I should have waited for your expert to do the solving. I spent hours searching Mac sites, Sony camera sites, talking with customer service at Sony who referred me to a Sony media services site, who referred me to the SanDisk site...where I downloaded a Demo version of Photorecovery for Macs. The Demo proved that the pictures could be recovered, so I was willing to pay the $39.95 to LC Technology International. Informatica got me to the same place and I wouldn't have had all the hassles.
