Question about Dell Latitude D620 Notebook

Changeable parts for the screen

Hi! I have a broken dell latitude d620. The backlight has gone in the screen and I want to change it. I need to find a screen inverter and it have been very hard to find one for this model. Inverters cannot be bought, only together with the screens. I wonder which models are compatible with my screen inverter. I mean computer models. Or is there screens for other computer models which can be used for my dell.

It is unfortunate that the LCD screen has blurred. There is a possibility that the LCD screen has failed. You may want to use the below link and performing an LCD BIST:

The backlight won't turn on but occasionally will flicker.

Suggest you replace the Inverter. A Backlight goes out all at once.
90% of the time the Inverter is the hardware part at fault.

[ An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself.
A Backlight is used to supply the needed extra lighting.
A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a much smaller scale

An Inverter is used to required power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
Boosts power up for the LCD screen, brings it down for the Backlight.

Replacing an Inverter is a simple job. Replacing a Backlight is not.
The Backlight is located within the LCD screen assembly.

The metal frame of the LCD screen assembly is removed along the edge where the Backlight is located, to access replacing the Backlight.

In the above list for Service Manual, click on > Display Assembly and Display Latch.

This information shows you where the Inverter is located on a Dell Latitude D620 Notebook PC.
The Latitude D620 is part of the Latitude D600 series of Notebook PC's.

When i turn my computer dell latitude d620 on it comes to the dell screen then the windows xp screen and then it goes black with nothing more than the mouse. what could be the problem?

This sounds like a video issue. Try starting the system into safe mode (after the dell screen, tap F8 to get the startup menu and then select safe mode) When in safe mode, go to the control panel and remove the display adapter driver from the device manager under System > hardware tab. Try booting into normal mode windows- you should be able to get into windows at that point. Download and reinstall the graphics driver from support.dell.com. If the issue reoccurs after you've reinstalled the graphics driver, it means that the video card on your system has gone out. At that point, contact Dell technical support if you are in warranty to get service- if not, try pricing the replacement video card from Ebay or Dell parts service.

the batteries eventually wear out and quit taking a charge. You can run the system without a battery with no ill effects. replacements are about $100 for a new battery

Am seeing a web cam on the monitor base of the dell d620 i got but the web-cam seems like it isn't working at all. so am wondering if it just came that way?

The Dell Latitude D620 (I personally have one) does not have a webcam. What you are seeing is the ALS (Ambient Light Sensor), it is used to automatically adjust the backlight of the screen based on the environment's lighting. I have never seen anyone get one working.

Below is a link that gives you an illustrated view of the disassembly of your laptop. It be that the wire from the video cable has popped out of the inverter. When you remove the bezel from the lcd panel, check the plug connections on the inverter before changing the inverter out.

It is the backlight! That laptop uses a fluorescent lamp. It is bad.
If you look carefully at the screen, you will see the Windows desktop (or whatebver you are running). It just needs to be lit up.... from the back. Tel them to replace the LCd screen or replace the lamp.

Hi,
If you have already replaced the LCD inverter cable and still the problem is there . You also told that the display is working fine when connected to the external monitor. This mean the Video controller on the motherboard is fine. This lead us to the conclusion that you would have replace the whole LCD assembly and not the inverter cable alone.

Blank Laptop Screen

Either the LCD inverter or the LCD or, at the very least, the backlight in the LCD, is faulty. You will need to replace either your LCD inverter or the screen itself.
