The problem with my HT-Q70 is that every light on the display is lit up. There is no way to tell what functions are being switched , or what disc is playing. The volume control also does not go up and down.
I had the same problem. My piece died after the 12 month warranty. But,
there was an additional 3-Month Warranty Extension if you Registered
the piece On-Line. I had done that. The Samsung Service Center said
they did not have access to be able confirm that I had registered it. I
had the date registered but that didn't matter to them. They just
wanted me to forward the Proof of Purchase info to them(which I Scanned
& E-mailed). Once they confirmed this. I shipped them the Main Unit
Only(not the Speakers), they repaired it, & returned it. The parts
they replaced on my piece were: AH92-02494A(Display Malfunction),
AH44-00112A(Dead Intermittently), AH64-03942B(Appearance Item Defect),
& AH31-00039B(Mech. Noise or Vibration). It's been about 1 year
since repair & so far works well.
When this piece failed I also smelled an electrical burning smell. It was very soon after I had touched the On/Off Button.
I
BELIEVE THIS UNIT MUST BE GROUNDED, IT MAY BE VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO
STATIC DISCHARGE AND GENERATES IT'S OWN STATIC FIELD AND DOESN'T NEED
MUCH TO COMPLETE A CIRCUIT. GROUND IT(and yourself) AND ONLY USE A
REMOTE CONTROL TO OPERATE THE UNIT. BE CAREFUL WHEN INSTALLING MEDIA TO
ENJOY. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE. Can't say I won't use Samsung again
because it's all garbage in, garbage out in this disposable society
we've allowed ourselves to be a part of.

Sounds like the microprocessor is toast. That isn't repairable.

System was working, fine (except that the volume controller was wacky sometimes working other time up was down??) Then one day all lights on display are lit, no volume control. System does play sound but hard to figure out which device as no display. Also volume does NOT work. Any suggetions?

I have the same problem. All icons are brightly lit. Luckily I can control the volume via the remote control.
My Samsung HT-Q70 system is about a year and a half old . . . I was in the middle of watching a DVD and suddenly the screen froze and the front display went black. I turned off and unpluged then repluged and nothing, unplugged again and left alone for about 12 hours to ensure all memory was drained, etc. plugged it back in and turned on, now I had every led light on the front display lite and a clicking sound came from the unit. Unplugged again and let sit for some time, replugged it in and I still get the entire display lit but no clicking and no response from the unit.
Having the same problem.. every light on the display is lit up. There is no way to tell what functions are being used. Cant change volume on front panel we have to use remote. Unit is only one year old... so sad.
When my Samsung HT-Q70 was just 6 months old, the display began acting up. Partial letters, no letters, no way to tell what the heck was going on. I tried emailing Samsung who advised me to pack up the whole system and send it in. I'm too lazy. So I lived with it for 7 more months. Tonight every single light on the display is lit up and the system keeps shutting down. After fiddling with it for a while, I got it to stay on long enough to get my dvds out, but now what? I have to get a whole new system? Very disappointed in Samsung. I paid close to $300 for this.
Well I'm in the same boat as the rest of you and that sucks! there is obviously a problem with this and Samsung should take care of these issues. Also my fan is often excessively noisy, and doesn't always work upon powering up.
Other than that, I love the rest of my home theater set-up and Samsung Plasma.
Same problem with my HT-Q70 - all the lights on display light up and you can't tell what is going on with the machine. Tried same thing, unplugging, but no luck. Anyone have any luck contacting Samsung for resolution?
Purchased my HT-Q70 12/27/2006. Fan went out and was repaired under warranty. About 2 months, I put in a HD-DVD and all the lights came on and stayed on. Samsung said since unit was out of warranty, I could send it in along with a check for $160 and they would fix it. Fortunately, all systems work OK except there is no display. They did not volunteer any other type of fix. Needless to say: 1. no more Samsung products in my future 2. my new Blu-Ray will not be a Samsung.
