I have the same problem with my unit. I've been removing the bulb and just replace it back and unit will work again. I probably need to vacuum or check the fan out too.
4 blinks is a fan error, check and see if the fans are clogged with dirt. Unplug the set then take the back off and get some canned air and blow the fans out.
I believe it is called the "light engine" is going bad. The Sony SXRD is NOTORIOUS for this going bad. So much so that there was a class action lawsuit that extended the warranty. My 50" SXRD went bad after 12 months. Because of the class action lawsuit, it was basically fixed for free.

4 red blinks indicates a fan error. usually blowing duster inside the fan blades will cure this. there are 4 fans inside this tv. looking from the back of the tv, the large fan on the left side is usually the culprit...good luck to ya
