I have a Creative Zen and i dropped it by accident and now the computer wont reconize it. When I turn it on the blue light on the side lights up and the screen turns on but it is black and you can fantly see the backlight to it. I hit the reset button a bunch of times and than came up for a split second "Firmware Malfunction" So i went to the creative website and got new firmware but like i said my computer wont reconize it. So all i want to know is; How can i get my computer to reconize my MP3?
I had this same problem and almost threw out the Zen.
The trick to getting it recognized by the firmware update software is to make sure you uninstall both WMP11 as well as the WMP11 Runtime. Those two things are listed separately in Add/Remove programs.
BOTH must be uninstalled before the firmware updater will recognize your Zen.
I would try to get into the recovery menu and see if you can run a clean up first (a clean up will not erase anything on the player). To access the recovery menu 1. Detach the Zen player from your PC , and ensure that the Zen Sleek is turned off. 2. Connect the power supply to the player. 3. Hold down the Play/Pause button while inserting a paper clip into the Reset hole underneath your player, beside the data/power connector. Keep on holding the Play/Pause button while you release the Reset button. The Rescue Mode screen will then appear. 4. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button.
Again if you can get into this menu, try a clean up first to see if that resolves the problem. Clean up should be the first option in the menu.

Hi my creative zen 8gb when turned on states that the ear phones are not connected, and loses all power even though it has been fully charged after one use
had same prob to the T...found this post and it fixed it...it's the computer not the zen...once I did the two steps my zen started charging and turned on...go figure...the flashing blue light doesn't mean it is charging. posted on Feb 25, 2009

If
you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a
windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media
Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only
workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto
<Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media
Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also
uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same
procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9,
whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to
re-configure Windows Media Player again.
Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You
probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the
instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.
This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative
for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basi
Well you can try this if you still got the zen, press the reste button, dont hold just press it then hold down the power button and it will start up but mine just kept on going black fter a while so i had to put it into recovery mode by doing the following. Hold down play untill the end Press the reset button Hold down the power button Makes sure you releas the play button last after that do Reload Firmware i think then it will delete the firmware make sure you have this downloaded on your computer http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=10889 its the newest firmware when you downloaded this plug in your zen into the computer and it should turn on your zen and then say Firmware problem and if it doesnt just put it into recovery mode then plug it in. Then make sure all application are turned off like Mozzila or the Internet Explorer, then just double click on the firmware and it should fix
