Sounds like you have a common problem with the front load washers known as mold and mildew possibly. Between the door and drum, there is a boot that could possibly be getting water trapped in it. This water becomes fowl and will cause mildew to grow. Wash this ring and boot with a strong bleach and water mixture a few times using hot water. After you hopefully get this corrected, be sure to wipe out any leftover water out of this ring, and leave the door open after each wash. Also, be sure that you are using the proper detergent (HE Certified)when you do your washing. Follow your "Use and Care" guide that came with the washer for information on detergent recommendations and cleaning and clearing door seals after your loads. Good luck and hope this may have helped. I have a foul smell coming from my washer everytime I use it...It almost smells like sewer gas...HELP!!!
you probably just need to clean the bellow. Thats the rubber that goes around the tub and door. f not cleaned, it will get moldy and smelly. Theres a tablet that you can buy called affresh. just put the machine on a regular cycle if it doesn't have a clean or sanitize cycle, and put the tablet in. Let the machine complete the cycle. (without clothes). You can even try wiping the bellow out with vinegar. after each wash i suggest you wipe the machine out, drying the bellow and glass. Leave it open for about half an hour, to let it air out.

MY newerfront load lg machine smells like mildew leaving clothes
Front load washers are very efficient but can create odors not common in top load machines. I would suggest running a cleaner such as Affresh or Smelly washer through the machine, there are instructions on the containers but basically you run a load without clothes on the hottest settings. This will help eliminate the mildew that gets caught between the tub and basket. A treatment once a month will do wonders!

You can purchase these at Target, Lowes or grocery stores near the laundry soaps.

You have an inner and an outer tub. The outer tub may be holding too much water. The smell may be the soured water in the outer tub. You should take the washer outside and drain it completely. Then replace the drain hose before you put it back inside. Hopefully, this will slove your problem.

Moldy smelling clothes
First, clean your washer with one of the front load washer cleaners on the market. (Affresh, washer magic, smellywasher cleaner, whirlaway hot tub cleaner, or Tide front load washer cleaner) Use the longest, hottest cycle your washer has, with no clothes.
Second, rewash the smelly clothes with the heavy wash cycle and a second rinse option, using no soap or fabric softener. This will remove the soap and/or fabric softener build up in the clothes which is causing the smell. Third, begin using one to no more than two tablespoons of HE soap per load, and not more than 1 teaspoon full of fabric softener if you use it. This is because top load washers used up to 45 gallons of water per load, and your front load machine is only using about 12 gallons total. If you are washing a load of bath towels (which were only used to dry off your clean body, not wipe up the floor or something like that) they are not really dirty,...... for washing "clean" towels, don't use any soap, and of course never use fabric softener on towels.
