Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Unable to init.

Receive this message now after trying to download an update fax program from the brother online site. Worked fine before. In the download process the machine beeped several times then came up with this error. I have tried unpluging and letting it sit for a time and did get it to work once after being unpluged a day.Once I then unpluged it to move it back to my computer and the same message again. Can you help clear this code error.

I downloaded an update for Print Shop Pro program. My Brother MFC 5840CN Now, my Brother MFC 5840CN will not print. I get the error message: Unable to Init. See Troubleshooting and routine maintenance chapters in User's Guide.

I uninstalled all MFC 5840CN software. I also downloaded uninstall Brother software and the full Brother MFC 5840CN software package.

I couldn't find anything on the Brother website about the printer function not working. A lot of information about setting up and using the FAX function.

I do not need, want, or use the FAX function.

What's wrong with my MFC 5840CN? How do I fix it?

We have not been able to receive faxes. it will ring and then go into sleep mode. it reads sleep 08:40 MNL

As I tell most people about brothers they can be a real pain. Usually try to take out the program and reinstall it. Make sure you allow the updates. Use ccleaner for registry cleaner...it is free from filehippo

This is no joke but "Very" often the number you are trying to fax to is indeed tied up for hours. Try one of the Brother free fax test numbers under"Support" on their site.

You may receive this error if the pc fax application is closed and you have faxes stored in the memory of the machine. To resolve this issue, you will need to print the faxes already stored in the memory of the machine. To print the faxes, please follow these steps:

I have never had a problem with my fax machine until recently. All of a sudden, the machine rings and rings when a fax is trying to come in; it will show call pickup; to receive the fax, I have to pick up...

The machine has probably been taken off of auto-answer. You can download the manual from Brother's website here:

http://www.brother-usa.com/manuals/default.aspx?ProductID=PPF2800&ProductGroupID=2&WT.cg_n=Support&WT.cg_s=Manuals

Then you can verify it's set up properly. If the problem is due to some failure in the fax machine (always possible) you can find service options on Brother's site as well.

Update your Windows, then try again. If that fails, download from another site. I had this same problem when I switched computers and it worked for me.

Try hitting Menu * 2864 (it should say maintenance) then 91 then 99

This will reset the fax machine without erasing your settings. It should clear it up. If it doesn't work after a few tries, you have to hit 0 instead of 91 and that will reset the entire fax machine to factory defaults.

Try turning off ECM (error correction mode or overseas mode). Try calling the fax # from a regular phone line - If you hear the fax shrill tones you know you've got the right #) I it does not go through, you should get an error code #. let me know what it is
