Tomtom 510 will not activate. tried it with connection to electrical outlet and without being plugged into the outlet. It quit working after it was plugged into an automobile cigarette lighter plug, then disconnected and shut down for about one hour. Upon the next attempt to turn on the device, nothing happened. The green light indicating " "chargineg" Lights up when plugged into an electrical outlet in the house.

Same problem. Tomtom worked fine for around 18 months, then in the last few weeks started taking quite a while to find a GPS signal. On a work trip to Newcastle (150 miles away) it completely conked and refused to switch on although the green light displays when plugged in. Luckily I had an A-Z in my boot & managed to navigate my way back. Any solutions to bring my dead Tomtom back to life??

The travel trailer is plugged into the electrical for the house. Refrigerator is on AC. All lights and microwave work. The GFI trips even when nothing is plugged into them. Plugged in vaccuum, turned it on and it ran for a couple of minutes, then the GFI tripped. Now nothing even has to be plugged into the recepticles and you push the red button on the GFI and it immediately trips. What could it be?

After posting my problem, I did some more browsing and came across this on the amazon webiste:

31 of 32 people found the following review helpful: Tomtom 510 will not activate. tried it with - stars-4-0._v45457020_.gif Cure for not able turn on the Go 510, 16 Jun 2007 By Sirius (Essex) - See all my reviewsI like the tomtom so far the only niggle was it would not turn on once.
No troubleshooting on instructions, found cure on internet, reset button
underside. With the tomtom turned over and the card slot on top right hand
side there is a small rubber foot at the half moon shaped enterance, up at about the 10 o'clock position from the foot, but before the green circuit
board there is a small half round cut out with a hole under you need to press in this hole for a few seconds with a paper clip to reset. I wonder how many people have sent their tomtoms back that would not turn on.

Tried it & worked a treat!!! Newcastle here we come again ...

Have you tried to do a reset? Go to the TomTom website to find out where it is on your device and use a straightened paperclip to reset.

I lost the dock that connects to the computer

Your only option is to purchase another Home dock for your TomTom GO 510. The 510, 710, and 910 all use the same dock. The cheapest place to purchase a home dock is ebay. The answer to the second part of your question is no, you cannot purchase a usb cable to connect your TomTom GO 710 to your pc. The TomTom GO series uses a proprietary dock.

TomTom 510 Sat Nav

Most likey its not worth fixing. Look at it like this. While it may have only been 6 volts versus 5. One volt in a 5 volt system is a 20 percent increase.
If you took something that ran on 120 volts and plugged it into a 144 volt source you can figure the damage that would do.

TOMTOM 510 not reading SD card

I did find out how to solve the problem. I can't remember exactly where I found the solution but I think it was on TOMTOM website. You have to connect to TOMTOM home and reinstall the application. I put the TOMTOM disc in the computer (which came with purchase) and reinstalled the program. Which I thought was weird as everything appeard to be fine with TOMTOM home). Anyway, it worked. Good luck.
