You can click start>all programmes>accesories>command prompt instead. If you are unable then the registry is corrupt and you will need to repair windows.

Message= block 20560772 uncorrectable data hard drive

Hello sicily0144,

One possible solution is to open a cmd window and type chkdsk /f.

• The cmd window can be accessed by clicking on Start and Run. Then type cmd and click ok*

• Type 'Y' (Yes) if the following message displays when running chkdsk /f :
"Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)".

Chkdsk will try to fix the bad block problem when the computer is restarted.

If this solution is helpful please click a thumbs-up rating below.

Have a great day,

Microsoft is saying my product key is invalid when registering

The problem is that your Vista's Software Licensing Service has stopped. Vista uses this service to check itself and confirm it is Genuine. When the service is stopped, Vista is unable to confirm its own Genuine status and may show Genuine or Non-Genuine. The fact that the Service has stopped is also, most likely, the cause of other issues you may be experiencing (such as not having access to the Control Panel).
Normally this is not a big problem, since you can just restart the Service. However, we have seen a number of users that receive an error when they attempt to restart the Service. This indicates a more serious 'root cause' to the service having stopped.
What I would like you to do is to try to restart the service using the 'Service Restart' steps, below. If the service won't restart, you will receive an error.

Service Restart steps:
(If you have access to the Start button):
1) Click the Start button
2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field
3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe
4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc

(If you do not have access to the Start button):
1) Click the option that launches an Internet Browser
2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field
3) Find the file cmd.exe
4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc

A) If the error message is "System Error 3, The system cannot find the path specified." or "System Error 2, The system cannot find the file specified" then go to the main Vista Validation forum page http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads/, look in the announcement section and follow the steps found in thread "Fix for ‘Software Licensing service Has Stopped’ on some Vista 64bit systems"

use this one:

chkdsk /r

box will come up saying your drive is locked.

Type "Y" for yes. press enter.

Restart the computer and let the disk check process run.

Pay attention towards the end you'll get a two second flash telling you if there were any problems, etc.

Let me know what happens.

Desk top pc

Ok, basically nero is asking you to run chkdsk to see if there is any corruption in your system files and is generally a good fix for things like this.

If you don't know how to run chkdsk, follow the steps below.

Click Start -> Run

In the box type cmd, then press enter

At the commad prompt type cd \, then press enter

Then type chkdsk /f

If you are prompted to schedule CHKDSK to run the next time the computer restarts (because CHKDSK may be unable to gain exclusive access to the drive under Windows), type Y then enter

Type exit

If you have had to schedule the chkdsk ro run, restart your PC and chkdsk will run whilst your PC is starting up.

Please let me know if this fixes the issue.
