My Maytag LA590 (not PAV2300) washer sometimes won't spin to empty the rinse water. When this happens, the timer pointer keeps moving, eventually right passed the OFF mark for that cycle, and won't stop until reaching OFF for the next cycle. In such cases, I have to let the timer reach this second OFF position (to reset itself I guess), then push in the set knob and bring the pointer back to resume where it had stopped. When this happens, there is no sound except the ticking of the timer, no motor sound. If the washer had a two-speed motor, I would have suspected the bad high-speed motor start-up problem, but it has a one-speed motor (according to http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?&model_id=28984&diagram_id=825356). Not sure what to ck. Ideas? I have tools and a multi-meter.

There is a water level pressure switch inside the top panel that has 3 wires on it and a vacuum line. That pressure switch controls the water inlet valve functions via the timer.
If by chance the pressure sensing line is getting hydraulically locked with water due to some form of obstruction it can cause the symptom you describe.
This pressure switch also controls the start of the spin once the water level has dropped (prevents the wash tub from being a water brake and damaging the motor clutch)
If the water level pressure switch is working normally then the only thing left is the timer.
You can do your own testing of the water level presure switch with an external vacuum hose (3 feet in length) connected in place of the machine hose. (DO NOT drop the machine hose when you disconnect it!)
1. place timer on wash and start filling. LID CLOSED
a. Force air orally into the external line
1) Result fill stops agitation begins
2. place timer in spin LID CLOSED and force air into external line until the pressure switch clicks.
a. START SPIN CYCLE NOW and listen for water pump out
b. release pressure on external air line
1) result tub starts spinning
If it passes the above tests your looking at a timer problem causing your no rinse situation.
CHECK THE TIMER AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIX IT. THAT IS USUALLY THE FIRST SIGN THAT YOUR WASHER DOESN'T WORK. ON THE OTHER HAND, IT COULD BE ANY NUMBER OF THINGS, BUT CHECK THE TIMER FIRST. IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT HARD TO REPLACE THE TIMER.
RODNEY
it will fill but won,t spin, will throw out water as if it washed, then it take water to rinse but won,t spin ,then will throw out water as if it did , but clothes are soaked
sounds as if you have abad contact in the timer
advance the timer to a different spin cycle and see if it spins
then bo back to where it stops
if it will spin in the other spin cycles but not where it stops the the timer will need to be changed
in the console behind the knob is the timer. there are several contacts inside the timer that tell it what to do. one of thoughs contacts is bad. you need to replace the timer to fix the problem
