SATA dvd writer doesnt works with D101GGC

as long as your computer has a sata interface, any sata dvd burner will work.

This model DVD/CD writer is a SATA drive and unless your motherboard has a SATA connector then you have a slight problem. You will need to purchase a SATA controller and install it into your PCI expansion slot, then connect your new DVD/CD drive to this SATA controller. You will also need a SATA adapter power cable converter which plugs into the 4 pin power connector.

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this blue-ray disc/dvd/cd writer then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it

That motherboard doesnt support ATA it supports upto 6 SATA devices which is actually better and faster. You will need to take your DVD/RW back and ask to swap for a SATA and also make sure you buy a SATA cable and good thing is these are actually cheaper and faster. Its actually a very nice motherboard dont be disappointed. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

test or replace all the leads that attach to cd/dvd player including electical make sure they have a secure seating

Try pressing F12 at splashscreen (compaq splashscreen) and it will give you bootable options. Choose DVD drive.

If that doesn't work, press F2 (bios options) and change the bootable disk drives. The DVD should be the first, followed by the hard drive and then the floppy next.

Reboot and your PC will tell you to press any key to boot from CD.

Did you try to move the small jumper next to the connector on the back of the DVD writer.
Then try to choose different places to connect your DVD on the motherboard.
Check if you have the right driver or reinstall it.

I suppose your's is a SATA drive. Disconnect all the sata cables except for the Hard Disk and that of the Writer in question. Boot up and check if the drives works. If not take pains and try installing the drive in another PC (one of your friends'). If it still has the same problem check with where you bought it.

maybe a bios update and latest motherboard / chipset drivers ?

Also ensure that the sata and ide cable are seated firmly at both ends

what make is the motherboard ie asus etc ?

put hard drive as Master. dvd rw as slave!
if DVD comes with sata then just put hard drive as master.
configure it on the bios setting!
if it still don't detect it
try replacing IDE cable and sata cable!
