Could be ambient/background noise being picked up by in-camera microphone - switch over to boom mic w/ noise canceling and see if it clears up. Make sure you change settings in Windows Audio Properties.

On the top menu of Skype, select "Tools > Options".
A window opens. Click on the "Audio settings".
Check the microphone and audio is set up as your video/audio card in your PC. If not select your current video card name.
On the left menu, click on the "Video settings".
Set up the friends list that you want to let you see in Skype and test it.

I think what they are seeing is the photo you took with your webcam when you set up your account. Make sure your webcam is is working OK and then check your settings

Hi, First I would suggest you get a Microsoft Life Cam VX-3000 as it will install the easiest and has a mic built in. Then I would suggest you and your family download SKYPE as it is FREE to talk on using the computer. It allows oyou to connect with several family members. Only have to pay if you telephone anyone from the computer using Skype. So download SKYPE from this site: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/beta/ and follow these instruction to setup your voice/video.
