Still unable to locate the sound drivers for my vista system

The only available downloads are for program upgrades, no driver downloads for Vista. It's as if they don't exist. Has anyone successfully installed sound, video and smart card reader drivers for this CF-51 Toughbook?

When it comes to drivers, Windows Vista is still pretty new. Depending on your system, you may have minimal functionality. That's a big part of the reason my company never moved over to Vista...our next step will be Linux... Also, a lot of laptops come with proprietary versions of the operating system (be it Windows XP or Vista). Basically, that means the manufacturer "tweaked" the operating system to work the way it needs to with the machine. Sometimes, upgrading the operating system on a laptop can do more harm than help. Other times, it works just fine.

I think that you should read Panasonic's Web site. The best information should come from the manufacturer. I do know that you have a CF-51 but I don't know exactly which one so it's best you navigate through the site and select your exact model. You will find that Panasonic does not recommend operating Vista on these PCs. They also do not guarantee the operation of Windows Vista on Panasonic brand computer nor is Vista intended as user support for operating system compatibility (their exact words).

They do have some drivers available that will help fix certain issues that they have found while evaluating Vista on different Panasonic brand machines. If you search this site correctly you will find a wealth of information. It may turn out that you find what you need to get Vista working or, you may find that Vista is not the best operating system for your machine. Whatever the case, make sure you do what's best for the laptop ;)

Follow this link to find more support information and drivers for users running Vista on Panasonic brand machines http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/cgi-bin/itn/toughbook/dl01.cgi.

When you come to the Download Center page, you will need to choose a category (choose Driver). Next, Select your model in the list (you will see there are a lot of different CF-51 models).
Choose your operating system (here, your only option is Windows Vista Upgrade and I'll tell you why shortly).
Choose language then click Search.

The only option for Vista is upgrade...they are providing this information/software for users prior to upgrading from XP to Vista. In cases like these (when the operating system is fairly new) it's best to do your homework first. You may find that there were some fine tuning adjustments that should have been made prior to installing Vista. Your best bet may even be to roll back to XP, install any recommended software/Hot Fixes before upgrading the install Vista.

Just wanted to give you a few thoughts to start rolling around and working with. Make sure you check that Web site and be sure to click the links in the box labeled File Description. There you will find a detailed explanation of how they expect Vista to work on these PCs and what the software will fix.

Hope this helps!

I have two problems with my HP compaq 6830s running VIsta business SP2 1) My inbuilt web cam stopped to work, and i have tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers with no luck. 2)The wireless card,...

If you upgrade your operating system like from windows xp to windows vista, you need to install new hardware driver for your computer like for LAN, webcam, WAN and others because the old driver is only compatible with the old operating system and not with VISTA operating system. Solution would are, download webcam and WAN driver for Windows Vista and install it into your computer. Don't just upgrade your computer because the configuration is not the same with the old operating system. If problem still exist, just upgrade the service pack from 2 to 3. There is available install for upgrading the service pack of each operating system. and surely all your hardwares will function.

Updating audio drivers Select one of the options below to locate the available audio drivers if you already changed the operating system and you are experiencing sound problems.
  • Go to the HP Drivers and Downloads page and search for updated drivers for your model. Be sure to select the correct operating system.
Or download Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver » ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40501-41000/sp40762.exe
  • If the computer is upgraded to Vista, use HP Update to scan for updated drivers. To use HP Update, click Start , All Programs , HP , HP Update , and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If HP has not released specific audio drivers for your operating system, use the Microsoft Windows Update utility, or search the Microsoft web site for generic drivers for Vista. To use Windows Update, click Start , type update into the search field, select Windows Update from the list when it becomes available, click Check for updates , and then install any available updates.

Unable to install scanner

Cant find such a scanner, are you sure of the model "performance", If it is not Vista compatable, ie if Epson have not released a Vista driver, then it is not going to work with Vista.

See Epson web and download driver if available, if not change scanner or operating system or purchase software

Check your Epson product CD to see if it already contains Windows Vista drivers. If the CD indicates support for Windows Vista, follow the instructions that came with your Epson product to install your driver and other software.

If your Epson CD does not indicate support for Windows Vista, DO NOT INSERT YOUR EPSON PRODUCT SOFTWARE CD IN YOUR WINDOWS VISTA COMPUTER because the setup program is not compatible with Windows Vista. Instructions for installing additional software from your CD may be available with your driver download.

Note: If you already have ArcSoft PhotoImpression™ 5 installed on your Windows Vista computer, you may need to install a "patch" program. Go to the ArcSoft website to download and install the patch.

Products that are not Vista compatable are not capatable with Vista, who would figure hey!!

Driver problem with vista

Unless there is an overly compelling reason to be using Vista roll back to XP, wait a few more months for the new drivers. Vista I'm sure has just been developed to keep mental health proffesionals in buisines. Failing that you can often "trick" XP drivers to work on Vista ocasionaly even got a few 2K ones to work.

Obviously hit them manufacturers web site. But don't be so sure. Had to abandon a printer because just no drivers for Vista.

Go back to XP - Vista offers nothing of significance over XP and with service packs is nice and stable - Vista at this point in time does not play nicely with others hardware or software.
