I can't select the DVI source input on the monitor front panel

You don't say from what to what? Questions like this need
'make model (what it is)' for both items. However DVI is normally a Computer Monitor and there is only one type of cable. When you connect, the monitor see the computer as the source. Sometimes you need to go to the computer Display Settings and select DVI.

I have both ASUS and LG monitors with multiple input choices. On both, when the monitor is turned on, it remembers the last input source. Both monitors (and presumably yours, as well) have an INPUT selection in their SETUP MENU.
So, I'm suggesting you search your monitor for an INPUT selection option, then choose "VGA" rather than DVI / HDMI / AV / COMPONENT / CABLE / ANTENNA, etc.

Any contemporary monitor is able to switch analog/digital mode automatically if connection from signal source to monitor is set up properly.

Connect digital output from your graphic card to DVI input of the monitor. Disconnect any other signal cables from monitor and switch on both devices (PC & monitor). Wait a while. Monitor checks its inputs and a activates digital DVI, because it is only one active input on it.

If none picture excluding error message of monitor is displayed, go through these steps:
1) Check whether your monitor is set for automatic input selection. If monitor buttons have no response try to use analog input to activate screen (any picture, desktop background...) and then get monitor menu access by pressing menu button.

2) Find out what connector type has your graphics card in PC. Possibilities are: DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and some their options. See Wikipedia for connector look if you are not sure.
Remember that blue D-SUB (VGA) connectors are analogue and you cannot activate digital mode through analog VGA cable.

3) Use appropriate cable to connect monitor to PC.
Example: Your PC has HDMI output. Use HDMi-to-DVI cable. Your monitor input is DVI and common DVI-DVI cable is not suitable in case you have PC with the HDMI.
Note that DVI-to-DVI, DisplayPort-to-DVI etc. cables are available. You must buy right one.

Be aware that "Auto" button is inactive in digital mode of monitor.

If your monitor has various input sources, make sure it's on the correct input source in the main/input menu. If that's not the problem double check the cable for bent pins also make sure if you have a video card with DUAL dvi outputs that your using the correct one.. as the other one might be secondary and non-functional. It's possible but highly unlikely if you unplugged the DVI cable while the monitored was still powered on it could have damaged the video card of the computer or mainboard of the LCD monitor. When in doubt try another DVI cable if all else fails.. if you have another DVI monitor (thats a known good) try that also to make sure that the video card is not the problem.

Try first, select input source manualy.
Sometimes, it automatically trys to detect DVI source first.

Press Source button to have the monitor double-check the input signal source.

LCD Monitors having multiple inputs have option and option to select and switch between the displays from analog (VGA) or Digital (DVI) inputs. Go to the LCD menu and select input source (DVI)

Your setup has a TV/Monitor and a audio/video box. The A/V box is connected to the TV and other source inputs connect to the A/V box. Hookup your cable box to the A/V box either using component video (green, blue, red) RCA cables from cable box outputs to the A/V box inputs OR the A/V box also has a DVI/HDMI input jack which may work using a HDMI cable.
Select the proper source.

After switching your monitor as a TV you have to select input source as TV or DVI by using your monitor remote controller generally monitor set to VGA input.For using it as a TV you have to change the input from VGA to TV or DVI. If it like my monitor, same hookups as yours, then when you want to use the hdmi port you need to disconnect the dvi cable. The monitor cannot read from hdmi & dvi when both are connected, Try this & see if your PS3 works. Good luck.
