It sounds like your external hard drive is physically damaged. Just like an engine in a car, the drive is constantly running, anywhere from 4200 to 7200rpm. When you hear the drive making " sounds ", outside of when you power it up, you should only hear a whir of some sort, and possibly the sound of it writing or reading. You may need data recovery software or services.

I looking for a pcb boad for hd western digital

That would be on another WD2500JB Caviar harddrive

Either that, or start looking on the internet posting -
WD2500JB PCB Board, and see what search hits come up.

Here,.....let me try.............

http://www.hdd-parts.com/18100096.html

Before you replace it, let me ask........
1) Was it in a Desktop PC?

2) Was it in an external harddrive?

External harddrive?
Then suggest you obtain a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3883498&CatId=2780

In an external harddrive there is a small interface circuit board.

The Harddrive plugs into the small interface circuit board, and the USB cable is attached to the small interface circuit board.

It is this small interface circuit board that usually goes bad.

The external enclosure is just like the case of the external harddrive.
Has a USB cable going to a small interface circuit board, and the harddrive plugs into it.

External hard drive full, want to erase and start over.

While the external hard drive is connected to the computer, click on my computer. Find the icon related to your external hard drive. Use the right button of the mouse to bring up the context menu and select format. This will erase your hard drive. BE sure that you really want to lose all the files on the external harddrive. They would be difficult if not impossible to restore.

I need to locate a mother board for a firelite model #USBFLB40-C any suggestion? Or where can I get a new USB power data plug soldered on the old board? Thank you.

Yes I would take the Harddrive out of the SmartDisk FireLite external harddrive, and install it into an economical external enclosure.

Looking up reviews just now I know that it's a laptop sized harddrive that's inside.
(The Harddrive inside is 2.5 inches across in width. 2-1/2 inches)

I don't know however if it is an IDE or SATA unit.
But you will know once you get the case open, and view the Harddrive inside.

One example of a 2.5 IDE external enclosure,

One example of a 2.5 SATA external enclosure,

One example of an external enclosure that will support IDE or SATA harddrives that are 2.5,

I have a acer aspire t180 desktop with a 250gb hitachi scsi (ide) hd. I would like to know which hard drives are compatible so that I can exchange it. thanks

It's a SATA harddrive, not SCSI.

Serial ATA

Acer Support > Aspire T180 > Specifications >

http://www.acersupport.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT180/AspireT180sp2.shtml

Will use up to a 400GB SATA harddrive according to Acer.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics.
Another name is PATA.
Parallel ATA
Used to distinguish between IDE and SATA.

1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI

Exchange it?
Your harddrive has the Operating System on it.
A new harddrive will not have an O/S on it.
(Windows XP is an example of an O/S)

It would be much easier to install the harddrive you wish into an external enclosure, and plug the external enclosure's USB cable into your T180.

One example of a desktop size harddrive SATA external enclosure,
(3.5 inch SATA external enclosure.
3 and 1/2 inches across in width, for a desktop harddrive.
Laptop HD's are 2.5)

Firelite 160gb HD not recognized

Make sure that there is no "HD protection", in which the hard drive can only be connected to one computer. Also, try going to google and searching for some drivers for your computer to download and install. Then try plugging your hard drive in again.

My computer stopped detecting my hard drive

Hi, Based on your post/description: 1. Tried on 3 different computers - no go, so it's not a PC problem; 2. Tried replacing the cable - no go, so it's not an interface problem; 3. That leaves you only with the Firelite itself. An external hardrive would consist of 2 main parts, the electronic board and the hard disk itself. The board seldom (if ever) fails. Its function is to provide conversion/interface from the SATA/IDE connectors of the HD to the out USB/Firewire. The HD more often than not fails. Most external storage uses a standard HD inside the enclosure. Your possible options: a. Claim warranty/replacement; b. Replace the HD only; c. Physically remove the HD and connect it direct to a desktop either as IDE or SATA and run manufacturer's diagnostic and/or third party recovery software; d. Seek services of professional data recovery firms (if data/files are mission critical); Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
