Tv is just over 2 yrs old. When turned on it goes straight to the "MENU" screen. On a good day when tv is turned on it may show picture for a while then goes to the "MENU" screen. Also switches to VCR mode or TV 1 AND TV 2 is shown on the screen.Sometimes channels will not change by remote or tv.Im not sure if this would be a reset issue or not . The manual does not tell how to reset.
My dad and I fixed the TV/Video problem over the weekend using one of the solutions suggested. Make sure you stay away from the red wire running from the back of the tube to the circuit board.
1. Take the cover off the back of the TV.
2. On the bottom of the TV is a circuit board that is mounted on top of a plastic tray. Remove the cables running from the speakers by squeezing the tab on the white plug and pulling them up and off the board.
3. Looking at the back of the TV, pull the board+tray out (barely secured in there) and flip it 180 degrees so you're looking at the front of the board.
4. Desolder and remove the TV/Video push button. It's labeled on the PCB, and should be the second button in from the left.
5. Place the tray back in the TV and make sure the other buttons still remaining on the baord are aligned with the buttons on the front of the TV.
6. Put the cover back and you're done.
TV works as good as new again. Of course I can't use the TV/Video button on the TV itself, but the remote handles that fine. 20 minutes max, and no repairman needed.

Your solutions are all ****. There is a manufactur problem with these units. I am guessing dirt or dust. Button controls on front of TV are shorting on or off electronically. That screen you describe as the Toshiba screen is a most annoying demo mode. When the controls start to go on this TV... around 4 years old they can be fixed for about 100 bucks. Or you can take contact cleaner and spray out the tv....

Sometimes due to mishandling of remote control rarely these symptoms occurs. Remove the battery from remote control and try to use tv front panel. Again facing same issue there is malfunction in front panel switch, micom overmodulation, and memory ic also. This can be sorted by the technical person only.

As soon as the TV is plugged in it will turn itself on and the volume bar will go to 100%. Then it will drop down the menu screen and cycle through all the selections on each screen. If I hold the menu button in on the front of the TV I can sometimes get control of the volume and channel , but as soon as I let go of the button it goes back to doing what it was doing before. It also appears to be toggling between two channels. The TV is about two years old. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dean
As soon as I plug My TV in it will turn itself on and make the volume bar go up to 100%. Then it will drop the menu down and start cycling through each screen and every selection on each page. At the same time it appears to be toggling between two channels for a second then back to the other one. I can gain momentary control sometimes by pushing the menu button on the front of the TV in but as soon as I let it go it goes back to doing what it was doing before. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The TV is two years old. Thank You.
cuando prendo la tv luego se pone el menu y no lo puedo quitar de la pantalla que puedo hacer no tengo manual.
2 years old, menu controls itself television is of no use, no remote control function works.
We also have a 2 year old Toshiba # 32A33 and have loved it until recently given the eratic Menu Screen coming on all by iteself and running through all the settings. I may have to try the repair idea given here with disconnecting the video select button and using the remote. Do not want to make major repair bill.
Not sure we will buy Toshiba again.
Exactly the same problem as these other users. TV is 2 years old. As soon as TV is turned on, menu scrolls down and goes through all the settings. I have no control over the TV with remote or on front panel...Reset TV - didn't work; reset entire system - didn't work; replaced batteries in remote - didn't work. Seems like a strange problem that alot of people have with this TV...TOSHIBA ARE YOU LISTENING???.
having the same problem with the toshiba 32a33 model. all of the sudden the volume doesn't work, the menu setting appears on and off (more on). very annoying when you are trying to watch a movie. remote or controls on the tv panel doesn't work. thought toshiba was reliable, guess not after reading more people are having the same problem. please advise a way to fix this without involving a repair man.
frustrated consumer !
i am having the exact same problem as you guys - my tv is about 3 to 4 years old. it's really aggravating and i'm about ready to use my tv as target practice.
Same problem. I wonder what is up? The volume is pretty loud. The remote won't respond. None of the buttons on the TV will respond. They keep switching from the various modes (Video 1, Video 2, TV ...) and giving weird messages ... it said something about exceeded rating ... then it goes through all the menu items in English & Spanish.
Exact same problem here as well. TV just scrolls through the menu between English and Spanish. Then it scrolls between TV, Video 1 and Video 2. The TV doesn't respond to the remote. The buttons on front of the TV don't work. There is volume but you can't adjust it. When I hit the buttons on front of the TV they all respond the same (cycle through TV, Video 1 and Video 2). Sometimes when we turn it on it says something like "Advanced Technology for Toshiba". Sometimes it will say "Ratings Exceeded". Sometimes we will get the black and white snow screen, and in the bottom right hand corner it will say Cable 125 or Cable 1. When you're in the middle of watching something it switches modes. We tried playing the Playstation on that TV and sometimes the menu will appear while we're playing the game, and it switches modes. Does anyone have a fix for this? When I called the repair shops they sounded as if they didn't know what the problem was. I'd hate to pay for a service call if they don't know how to fix the problem.
Mine is having the same problem.First the name of the TV comes up and says something about the Toshiba home entertainment, then it goes thru each menu on it's own, then says something about that channel being blocked right now and says to press mute to enter a code but then it just goes thru that whole process again. After it does this a few times I am unable to do anything with the remote. After I left the TV off all night it quit but then after I had it one for a couple of hours it started again. I replaced batteries in remote and tried resetting everything I could but this didn't help.
I have a similar TV- It is the 32D46 and I am wondering if this solution will work for me. My TV is less right around 2 years old and the problem is that I cannot turn it on at all.
This happened once before and I tried to turn it on a few days later and it worked fine for about a month. Now I cannot turn it on again.
Yesterday I had the back off the TV and I saw the buttons you were talking about but I was afraid to remove anything before checking. Do you guys think this solution could fix my TV also.
I also had another problem that seems all too common with the model I have and it is the white lines at the top of the screen. Do you think a bad switch could possibly cause this issue as well??
Thanks much for the information...
