XM2 is the PAL version of the GL1 and 2, should be able to get it from any Canon parts provider (maybe even e-Bay/craigslist)... by mains do you mean battery? it is the same for the GL1/2 XL1/2 XM1/2 (Canon Part # BP-945)
I'm not familiar with the DM GL2a model designation, but it appears to be the same as the Canon GL2 MiniDV camcorder. The manual for the NTSC version can be downloaded here.
I discovered that the USB connection only works with the Canon DM-100.
I was able to connect the composite cables (red, white, yellow) from the AV out connection of the Canon HF 100. This works fine. It now records on DVD - R; DVD +R: DVD - RW and DVD + RW.
