Well a few years ago I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 4600 4MP Digital Camera and everytime I try to take a picture the AF light flashes red. Why is that?

Hello Winniethe383,
AF stands for "Auto Focus", When you are clicking a snap, the camera is trying to bring the subject into focus and the Red light blinking is to show the status that the camera is busy Focusing.
Please let me know in case you need any further details and I would be glad to assist you further :)

Regards,
Srinivas

When shutter depressed "AF" and "SB" LED's flash

My camera's shutter will not depress all the way due to a red flash light coming up all the time in the Flash-Ready indicator lamp (refer to pag 28 in the Nikon manual). It can be full sun outside but it will not work due to the red flash light coming on.

A work around is to select a flash mode of 'cancel'.
There is a button toward the front of your camera called the flash mode button. Click that until you see strike mark on the flash icon of your monitor screen (see page 32 in the Nikon manual).

The camera must have a malfunction of determining the lighting so it always thinks you need to have a flash on the picture. Of course this is not 'fixing' the flash/lighting issue but you can take typical day pictures for now with this work around.

I can help, I just need a few more details...

  1. Is there a blinking red dot on our screen when you try to take a picture with the flash?
  2. Is the flash poping up?
  3. Has it worked before?

Slow record time/goes into standby mode

Hi,

It sounds as if it is working mechanically, but there is a software fault.

Try downloading a new driver for it (or use the CD which you may still have)

They are available free Here.

(Please contact again if this does not solve the issue; If it does, Please rata as Fixya! so others may benefit. Thanks.)

Nikon Coolpix 5700 Digital Camera - SB flashing and cannot take picture

Not to buy a Nikon Coolpix anymore.
This is a very bad camera. I had this same error last year. The camera was sent to Japan once, returned to me and worked for six months.
Now is the same problem: SB light in red doesn't let me take pictures in light conditions when flash is needed.
So, you'd better think in buying a camera, not Nikon, please.
