How do I stop the battery from draining after only a few hours.

try letting the battery completely die and recharge it. Do this 2 or 3 times. Sometimes "topping up" a partially charged battery puts a memory into the battery and it wont allow you to do full charge.. I let my Nokia get to its last legs before replacing the battery with a spare and then fully charge the other one. Both batteries are now at least 6 years old.. Yes , its an old phone...

Invalid battery message comes up when I turn the phone on.

I am not familiar with the TracFone V170 but most phones now communicate with the battery. They do this because the battery contains a small computer chip which monitors the charge state, temperature etc.. If this chip is faulty or missing because it is a cheap copy battery, some phones will not work properly. They usually power up okay but will not charge or will charge really slowly. There are various messages they may give including "alien battery", "Invalid Battery" to name a few. If it is unable to communicate with the battery, it will not usually charge as fast as it could because it cannot tell if the battery is overheating so it will always trickle charge an unknown battery.

You will notice a battery like this because it has at least three battery connections. Older ones only had two.

Battery life and recharge time

You have to try as it would be new : turn off the phone and charge it for 12 hours. Check out if battery bars are moving. If not then battery is dead and you need to buy new one.

Unlocking my motorola 139 tracfone

Unfortunately, your going to have to call the Manufacturer or your phone to solve this issue. The Manufacturer of your phone would be Nokia, LG, Samsung, Motorola. They are the only ones who have access to this information. Some places may charge you to get the unlock code but most won’t so it’s really hit and miss. Nokia charges 14 dollars. In this case you need to contact Tracfone at www.tracfone.com . I’m sorry your having so much trouble with this! I hope I was able to help you today!

My tracfone will not come on,only the lights

You'll wanna ensure your phone is totally charged. Also, let it completely drain before putting back on the charger. This will help with the charging memory.
As for the phone. Do a master reset: to do a "Master Reset". I went to "Settings," "Other Settings," "Initial Setup," "Master Reset" and put in the security code. "1234" is the security code if you have not reset yours.

It'll get the phone back to as you got out of the box, day one! Your numbers will be fine. You'll notice the ringtone and the wall paper will be the orignals.

I know this will work!

Cheers!
