Question about Uniden Cordless Phone

Model #27851FE3-B I can't get a dial tone on my handset. I tried all three handsets with no change in the problem. I unplugged the base from the phone line and plugged it back in with no change. What else can I do?

    Just moved and now none of the phones will get a dial tone. Tried unplugging power and plugging back in. The phones' LCD screens, when put on to the base to charge, will flash slowly on and off. It didn't do that before. This phone system is totally useless now. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with it?

My motorola Model K704B is saying "no line in what can I do to fix it


The "No Line" message means that the base of the cordless phone either doesn't have power, the line is damaged or that the handset/base are not communicating properly. To diagnose the problem, first check that the base AC cord is connected to a good outlet. You may want to unplug the cord from both the phone and the wall outlet and then plug it in again. (I've seen a case where someone turned off a surge protector and forgot to turn it back on; without power, the cordless phone won't work.)

To check if the problem is the phone line, I like to use an old corded telephone. Plug the backup phone in and check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, try a new RJ-11 cord. If there is still no dial tone, try the test phone at another jack. If you can, find the box where your telephone line service comes in. Open the box and look to see if there is an RJ-11 jack. If that jack is present, try using the test phone and listen for the dial tone. If there is no dial tone at the service box, contact your phone company. They should fix this problem for free. (It's possible that rodents have damaged the phone line outside of your home.) If the box doesn't have an RJ-11 jack, you'll need the phone company to test the service and repair it if needed.

If there is a dial tone at the service jack, then you have an inside problem. If there was no dial tone at only the first jack, you can check the jack itself. Unscrew the face plate and look at the back of the unit. There are two types of connections. If you have the screw terminals, look for a disconnected wire. Strip a new section of wire and secure it under the correct screw on the face plate. See http://cablesupply.com/content/47-telephone-connections-and-rj11 for the wiring pattern. If the jack uses a keystone, you'll need a punch-down tool that is available in many hardware stores in the electrical wiring section. Do not strip the conductor; just push it down into the correct slot of the keystone. If the problem is not at the jack, you'll need to check all of the wiring from the service box for damage. Your telephone company will do this for a fee.

If the test phone had a dial tone at all of the telephone jacks, then the problem is with the cordless handset and the base. One of the two units is not communicating correctly (transmit/receive). If your cordless phone is still under warranty, contact Motorola. If only one handset can be used with the base, replace the phone. If your cordless phone can pair multiple handsets with the base and only one handset is giving the "no line" message, replace the handset.

My phones are not working at says out of range.


When a cordless phone says "Out of Range" or "Searching for Signal", there are a number of possible issues (assuming you are close to the base). 1) The handset battery may be low and not taking a charge. If the battery is more than a year old (including time spent in storage), replace the batteries for both handsets.
2) The base may not have power or an incoming telephone line signal. Check that the power adapter is warm (power to the base). Use another phone cord (and a second phone (preferably corded) to check for a dial tone). If a second phone has no dial tone, see below for diagnosing a phone line.
3) The phone base has lost the registration information for the handsets. A way to reset the phone is to unplug the power cord (from both the wall outlet and the phone base) and the phone data line and unplug the batteries from all handsets. Wait several minutes then plug in the base power and data cords and then reconnect the phone batteries. You may want to re-register the handsets. This is done by putting the handset in the main charging base for 20 seconds when the handset is fully charged. 4) The phone base or handsets are not transmitting or receiving the signals properly. This means that the phone needs repair or replacement. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer. Otherwise decide if the phone is worth the repair costs.

If you have no dial tone at the jack where the base is connected, check another phone jack on that line. If you still have no dial tone, find where the phone service comes in. Then open the service box and if the service is fairly new, plug in the RJ-11 test phone and listen for a dial tone. If you can't plug in the phone cord or there is no dial tone, contact your service provider. They will test and fix any outside problem.

If the problem is inside, inspect the visible wires. If you have a DSL filter as part of the inside wiring, check/replace it. If only one jack has a problem, open the faceplate and fix any loose wires. There are two faceplate designs - screw terminals or keystone jacks. For the screw-type, the conductors must be stripped and secured under the screws. For the keystones, the conductors are not stripped but pressed into the terminals with a punch-down tool. If the problem is not in a visible part of your wiring, you may want a professional to find and fix the problem. Your telephone provider will be willing to do the work for a fee.

Reset the units/set up by doing the following:
  • Turn OFF all the HANDSETS.
  • Remove the batteries of the HANDSETS.
  • Unplug the power source of the BASE.
  • Unplug the phone line of the BASE.
  • Let it stay that way for 30 mins.
  • Insert the battery again of the HANDSETS, make sure it is charged properly.
  • Plug back the power source of the BASE.
  • Plug back the phone line to the BASE.
  • Register any handset that is unregistered (refer to manual).

Reset the phone:

Unplug the battery in the handset, unplug the phone line from the base and unplug the electricity from the base. Leave everything unplugged for an hour or two instead of a couple to five minutes. That way you can get more of an idea of whether your phone will work. After an hour or two plug in everything. If resetting the phone doesn't work then try the next step.

Check the surge protector:

Is the phone line plugged into a surge protector? The surge protector may have stopped working or blown a surge, a sudden burst of electricity, which may have caused the dial tone in your cordless phone to go. Unplug the phone line from the surge protector then plug it back in and see if you get a dial tone. It could be that the phone line plugged into the surge was loose or not plugged in securely.

Try a different phone plug, outlet.

Check the base:

Is the base dusty and have possible dirt in the prongs where the phone sits? Lift the base and blow off dust.

Check the handset for dirt.


Rub metal connections on handset and base:

Use a pen cap or coin and rub the metal connections on the bottom of the handset. Rub the prongs, metal connections on base.

Just unplug the base unit from AC wall power socket for a while, say for about 5 minutes or so, replugh the base unit to power socket again. Place each handset on it and synchronise it with the base unit. As you put it on, you will hear a beep sound. Now the ahndset ahs been synchronised with base unit. Do this for the other two handsets. OK.

I have a uniden Tru9466 base station and a uniden TWX 977 that the later that was previously registered with the first displayed a out of range notice so I went thru the process in the owner's manual...

  1. Turn OFF your handset (TWX977) and any other handset registered to the base (9466).
  2. Unplug the base from its power source.
  3. Unplug the phone line from the base.
  4. Wait for 15 mins.
  5. Plug back the power source and the phone line.
  6. Turn ON the handset (TWX977)
  7. Reset the handset (TW977) by doing the following:
  • Press the MENU soft key. Select the DEREGISTRATION submenu.
  • ARE YOU SURE? appears. Move the cursor to select YES. Press the OK soft key.
  • To clear other handset information, please follow these steps:
  • From the handset, press and hold [ ] and [#] for more than 5 seconds. Select the DEREGISTER HS submenu.
  • Move the cursor to select the handset ID to be de-registered from the list, and then press the OK soft key.
  • DEREGISTER HS appears. Move the cursor to select YES. Press the OK soft key.
  • ARE YOU SURE? appears. Move the cursor to select YES, and then press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.

8. Register the handset by doing the following:
  • With the base in standby, press the MENU soft key.
  • Move the cursor to select REGISTER HANDSET. Press the OK soft key.
  • On the handset, press and hold [#] until you hear a beep.
  • While the handset is registering, HANDSET REGISTERING will appear in the LCD. When REGISTRATION
  • COMPLETE is displayed; the handset has been registered to the base. If REGISTRATION FAILED appears,

Here are some tips, found online:

Reset the phone:

Unplug the battery in the handset, unplug the phone line from the base and unplug the electricity from the base. The phone lights up when put to charge also the red light on the base,, but when the phone line is connected it wont work ..What do u think is the problem?


The battery in the handset could be bad . First I would test that the base unit is recieving dial tone by pressing speaker button on base unit. If there is dial tone then problem is in handset or in base unit communication to handset. Try resetting power to base unit. Check manual for any re-initialization procedure. If the base unit is not receiving dial tone then I would test that the phone line is delivering dial tone to the base unit by connecting a known good phone to the line cord. If the dial tone is not present , problem could be in line cord from outlet, outlet, building wiring, or service provider.

Check the Battery on the Handset. remove the pwr frm the base unit n connect aft 30 sec. aft this if it still says the same msg, then the handset needs to be replaced.
