I got a new computer about a year ago (with Asus K8V-MX motherboard and Windows XP), and have had this problem since the chap who built it delivered it to me. He tried to fix it several times, but was unable to (grrr). He attributed it to the drivers of my keyboard and/or mouse not being up to date. Later, he said he could not duplicate the problem. Everything is up to date - I made sure of that. In fact, I have updated them myself (several times, as I bought new wireless mouse and keyboard since he had first delivered the computer). Here's what happens: I will be working away, in Outlook, in IE, or whatever, and the screen will suddenly go black. The computer restarts itself and I start all over again into loading settings, etc. There appears a "Windows has experienced a serious error" report. Sometimes, the black screen even appears as my computer is starting, usually after I click on the Windows thingie and it starts to load my settings. Usually, I only lose what I have been working on at the time, but sometimes it will delete recently downloaded emails if it happens when I am opening Outlook. I am worried that it is more than just an inconvenience....it is driving me nuts. Can someone help me, please??? I don't want to go back to the chap I bought it from, because he doesn't seem to know what to do.

Thanks for your suggestions, guide2u. No virus - I have a virus program and perform regular checks. I'll have a look at the memory - it shouldn't be a problem, it should have been NEW and GOOD since the PC was just built! Will post again when I have had a look.

I DON'T know the memory is good - I am just saying that I am disappointed if buddy sold me memory that wasn't good for a new computer he sold me, and then when I had problems, didn't check it himself! One reason I don't want to go back to him.
How WOULD I make sure the memory I get is good, if, as you say, it doesn't necessarily follow that new=good?
Yes, I have updated the virus software all along, ever since I installed it right after getting the new computer. He had installed a freeware antivirus program and it had fresh updates, until I installed the new one (Norton).
