Question about Hotpoint RB787 Electric Kitchen Range

Oven and smooth top no functioning

We recently moved the range to do flooring underneath it. Since we plugged it back in, the oven and smooth top does not heat up, but the clock is functioning and the indicator lights say both are on. I thought about a reset button, but cannot find one.

Sounds like a breaker issue to me. The breaker for this one should be located outside (if you're in a home) near the electric meter. Open the breaker box and look for a 40 or 50 amp breaker set (your oven uses 2 separate breakers, they are side by side in the box). Even if they don't look "tripped", go ahead and trip them manually and reset them. This should get you cookin' again. *Note--> Breakers can get "weak" and trip for no reason. If this continues to happen, you should have an electrician replace your oven breakers.

Will just replacing the oven element fix my Kenmore model 911.955879range oven? It sparked, broke in two and a white flame continued going around the element, wouldn't stop I had to shut breaker off.

Hello Jennifer;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Good for you - turning off the breaker.

You have a older oven. Usually there is a spark or crack in the oven element. In your case the element was so embrittled it broke into 2 pieces.

Before you use the top range burners to be on the safe side you need to disconnect the oven element. You may have damaged the oven control board to where it is locked into power for the oven.

25713262-01ium3bsyoj5ql4fhv4kpwvp-4-0.jpg 1.) Remove the bottom drawer to reduce weight.
2.) Put a rug on the floor in front of the oven, so when you pull the oven out it does not scratch the floor.
3.) Pull the oven out so you can get behind it.
4.) Unplug the unit.
5.) Remove the back bottom cover.
6.) Disconnect the heating element and remove from oven.
7.) Rap the two loose element connections in the back with electrical tape.
8.) Follow the element loose connection to the control board at the top. Disconnect at the oven control board.
9.) Inspect the loose wiring from the control board to the heating element for burns or melting.
10.) Plug the oven back in and turn on the range burners.

The part number for the oven element is WB44T10014. Sears wants about $95.00 for this part. Search the internet for this part number and get it for about $28.00.

Your oven control board may have become damaged. Recently I replace one for a friend. Sears wanted $256.00. I got a remanufactured board over the internet for $30.00.

Get back to me and let me know what is going on.

Kenmore electric range model 790 oven stopped functioning, both broiler and bake. however, oven light still comes on.

I believe there is a thermal fuse (also called a TCO or Thermal Cut-Out) located either on the back of the oven, or between the top of the oven and the cooktop that has opened up. Did this happen after running a self-clean cycle?

Oven door locked

ah, you lucky guy. You can try a hard reset by unplugging the range for a good 1/2 hour, then plug back in. Unfortunutely this probably won't work, as these clock/timers are notorious for only lasting a few years. You have to blow $150+ and replace the clock/timer. Note: A hair dryer will help you get the face off the old one to put onto the new one.

Fridgidaire smooth top oven lock model FEF369CGSD

Actually my son fixed it. The button on the face frame when the door is open, isn't just for the interior light. My son held it in and the oven latch slowly moved back to the open position. Thanks anyway

Oven inop

something has fused (broken) along the power line into the oven. Use an ohmmeter (power off) and check continuity along every possible power path (wire) until you find an OPEN ohms condition.
