I want to replace the thermostat on my wine cooler, but I am unable to remove the cooler from the built in cabinet. Can I use the old thermostat sensor and splice the old cable to the new thermostat sensor cable. Aug 15, 2013

If the sensor of the thermostat is not on the evaporator plate then yes the thermostat will never be satisfied. Because it is not reading air temp only the evaporator plates temp. should be clamped onto the bottom of plate.

SOURCE: wine fridge thermostat

No pictures, the new one goes in the same as the old one comes out. You have 2 screws on the bottom of the evaporator that holds the sensor in place. Then the sensor runs thru the bottom toward the back.As you remove the old one jus put the new one in the same way.

Ice on the back wall; temperature went from 58 degrees to 34 degrees; had to shut off regrigerator

hi,
Wine cabinets work off of cycle defrost, so in order to built frost your temperature sensors are not working properly. I would look for corrosion on or in connections to be the fault or problem. Sensors report information to control unit and thats there only job. Its the control unit that dictates function. Look for corrosion to be the problem, clean connection and seal with RTV when connection a corrected.
Good Luck

My Transtherm Castle wine cabinet has accumulated ice in the lower chilling compartment, I need to know what is involved in thawing/defrosting the cabinet.

Check the thermostat setting; it may be set too high. If lowering the setting does not solve the problem, replace the thermostat.
P.S. The thermostat is what controls the temperature.

Probably the thermostat is bad , you can bypass it by putting together the two wires from the thermostat and if the unit starts working ,replace the thermostat ;only do this if you havesome knowledge of electrical work and be very carefull.

Danby wine cooler model dwc172bl thermostat replacement

Once I figured out there were black plastic caps covering the screws holding the inside back panel in place, it was an easy fix. The cooler is now up and running. Thank you for giving me the $10 incentive to figure it out myself.

Wine cooler stopped cooling

I have seen this before. Get the thermostat off and put it's 2 wires together just to SEE if the wine cooler comes on. Be careful not to let it bite ya or ground against the cabinet. If it runs then thermostat replacement needed, now how simple is that?
