If its vista or xp ur activating

When you try to log in, you should be presented with a window that gives you four options:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Activate Windows online now --> (this will try to activate with whatever key you already have installed)
2. Buy a new product key online --> (self-explanatory)
3. Retype your product key --> (this is the same as "Change product key" and will give you the opportunity to enter a new key if you want to activate with a key that's not yet installed)
4. Show me other ways to activate --> (this is will give you two more options
a. Use my modem to connect directly to the activation service
b. Use the automated phone system
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you'll want to choose the 4th one in the first window and the 2nd on in the next window. It will give you a new installation ID, so you can phone activate.

This is due to the Product Key that has been entered is fake or invalid. The operting system will not tell you if it is a real key until the activation is attempted. I would suggest gaining a valid geniune copy of Microsoft Windows XP to remove the counterfit software icon.

HOW CAN I ACTIVE MY WINDOW P/S.

To activate Windows XP:1. Click the Start button, then point to "Programs" or "All Programs", then "Accessories", then "Command Prompt" 2. In the black window with white text that appears, type "oobe/msoobe /a" without the quotes, then hit enter. 3. In the Windows Product Activation Wizard, choose "Yes, lets activate Windows over the internet now", followed by "No, do not register with Microsoft". You may receive a friendly "Thank you!" and your copy of Windows will be good to go. 4. If internet activation fails and the Wizard complains about "too many activations" or an "incorrect product key", you still have the option of calling Microsoft's toll free number to activate Windows. As long as the Wizard doesn't report "invalid product key," options are still open. An "invalid" (not "incorrect," mind you) key is one reported or detected as pirated, so you'll have to find some other way to make your software go. ("msoobe" is Microsoft Out Of Box Experience, if you were curious)

Your OS is genuine Microsoft Windows, but it has one of those product keys that Microsoft.com
has decided is invalid, usually since it has already been installed (and activated over the internet)
too many times already. The home versions can only be activated 10 times before any future activations are disallowed.
Microsoft solution: buy a Windows 7 install CD for your laptop, and install.
Your solution: hunt around for an install CD from your friends/relatives/etc. with a product key that's
been activated fewer than 10 times, and ask the owner if you can use up one of their 10.

Hello

If you have a legitimate version of windows, then just mail Microsoft and they will give you another key to try.

The problem is, that there is pirated versions of Windows, which uses the product keys.
Microsoft will be able to help you. Just mail them with your details and problem.

Kind regards
Andrea

Need vista home basic key

You should have the activation key on your disk that you have brought or on the back of your computer. OEM disc's (that's the one's you get with your computer) will be activated as soon as you connect to the internet or there is a opition to phone

The only thing to do is call Microsoft and they can assist you with a valid product key.

When activating, it should ask if you want to activate over the phone.

Invalid product key

If you want to keep using Microsoft office home and student, have your credit card ready, connect to the internet, then just open moh&s and follow the prompts.
There is a free program called open office that is similar to mho&s here:

How can the product key be wrong??

I would be extremely surprised if this turned out to be a valid copy of XP. Shrink wrap is easy to do. Someone has already used your product key which Microsoft has now registered to a different computer.

And yes, when you submit it the message is that it is invalid which means already in use by another computer.

Microsoft never gives the error message "this product code is already in use". They only say it is invalid.

I've installed XP tons of time and even had a few times where the license belonged to another computer. When that happened, the invalid error message is what I got.

I'll make another guess and say you did not buy XP from a computer store, but instead from an individual. A reputable computer store should be able to help you with your problem if you bought from one.
