I have an ES200/300 classic series electric range. I just leased my home and the first time the tenants used the oven they said there was a loud pop and smoke came from the back. A technician got the stove working again but the display will not light up and the oven won't come on. He said all the wires and element appear to be fine. Any sugestions?

This "top element" is your broil element. It will only get red when broil is selected.

Richard, sounds like you did all the pretests. You'll need a new display panel. When you work on it, be sure to cut the power.

You need a new mother-board.

I had the same issue, it overheated my kitchen in a matter of minutes. If I didn't turn off the circuit-breaker, I probably would have had a fire - the heat being emitted was intense. The cost is running around $300. with tax and delivery. I'm not sure if I want to repair or purchase a new oven.

I'm afraid you may have a blown Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board. The EOC controls all the functions of the oven. The surface elements are controlled by individual infinite switches behind each control knob.. That's why the surface elements all work, but the oven does not. A replacement EOC can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and you will find it under the "Control Panel Parts" heading as item number 12. There are several listed, based upon the color you need (White, Biscuit, and Black). This is a very simple repair that any do-it-yourselfer can accomplish if you wish to perform this on your own. All you have to do is UNPLUG the appliance and remove the back panel of the console to access.

Before assuming the EOC is defective, however, inspect the board to see if it has a fuse on it. I do not have a wiring diagram to confirm. Some of these boards do have fuses and that's all that it may take to repair it. However, if the board shows signs of burned components, replace it. NOTE: Check for any loose connectors to the board as well.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you have questions and/or require additional assistance.

Oven coils not heating after loud pop sound

Sometimes food gets on a element. This causes a hotspot. The element makes a pop and goes bye bye. Remember this. When checking or replacing oven elements the L-2 power line goes directly into the element and is hot all the time the oven is plugged in. Be sure the power is not connected before attempting any repairs.
A simple check like this will help determine the problema:

Frigidaire gallery stove, oven not working,

Morison,
The same thing happened to me about a week ago. I was preheating our electric oven, heard a very loud bang/pop. Checked and the oven had PF (power failure) I went downstairs and the breaker was tripped. Came back upstairs and to look at stove, the burners are working fine so I continued to preheat oven after a half an hour the oven was only slightly warm. Did you ever find out what was wrong?
