Question about Canon PowerShot SD500 / IXUS 700 Digital Camera
Hi, Just two weeks before I'm going on vacation some of my buttons on my S500/IXUS500 camera stopped working. The buttons are set, menu, disp, func, print/share and the navigation buttons. Power, zoom, wheel and mode selection works. I have been looking around too see if there where any "keypad lock" or similar but could not find anything. I have also checked the manual, canon.com and several other webpages. The camera operates fine though but I'm unable to use the menues or change the settings. I have also tried holding in the menu button for 5 seconds without luck. There seems like there is no buttons stuck. The incident happened when I had the camera in my jeans pocket (bad handling I know...) Hope anyone have experienced anything similar. Kind regards, Rune
Just fixed my young daughters cheap Canon A495 by opening the cam and traced the wiring from the buttons to the circuit board. Carefully moved the flat cable a bit and now its a ok. Prolly just oxidation. You'll need a small screwdriver set, four tiny screws keeping A495 case together.

As you say bad handling - these little items do need a large measure of TLC. A repairs is not going to be an economic option Treat your self to a new camera for your holidays

Well yes, a new camera is always an option. However, I'm quite sure there is an easy fix for this since it happened once before some year ago, and a stranger at restaurant fixed it without I got to know what he did. So that's why I thought there was a "key lock function" or similar.
Regarding the holidays, I also have a digital SLR so I should be fine. I just wanted this camera for the underwater snaps.
