Question about HP LaserJet 2420 Printer
Try again the old toner cartridge if you still have it. Even though the print quality might be bad, see if there is a printout. If the page is not blank like the others, that is an indication that the new cartridge is defective and has to be replaced.

One way to check if the laser part is working is print a test page and open the printer cover when the paper is half way throgh. Take the toner cartridge out and inspect the drum. You should see part of the test page on the drum (loose toner forming the printout).
In this case, I would suspect something is wrong with the high voltage power supply.
If the drum has no image on it, then something is wrong with the laser beam or the mirror.
