That depends. If there was a single "best" mode for all pictures then the designers wouldn't have put other modes into the camera.
The best mode depends on what you're taking a picture of, and more importantly, on what you want the picture to say to the viewer. For a landscape, for example, you'll probably want everything from the flowers in the foreground to the mountains in the background to be in focus. For a portrait, you'll want the person's face in focus but the background to be blurred. For a picture of kids at play you'll probably want a fast shutter speed to stop the action. For a picture of leaves swirling in a stream you may want a slow shutter speed.
The best mode depends on what YOU as the photographer want the image to say.

If you mean, the background of your desktop, do this. Open the picture/photo, right-click and select "Set as Desktop Background", the picture will be set as background picture. If this is not what you want to know, let me know with more details.
If your Operating system is Windows 7, right click your current desktop, choose the Personalize, double click the Desktop Bacground, choose Browse, and browse to the folder that has the picture you want to use for the desktop background, click OK button. All the pictures on the folder is displayed. Click the check button on the picture you want to use and save the setting.
What I can determine is that the display on the front of the DVD player is not working or displaying the information it used too as the flower design indicates the impact area when something either hit it or it fell on. If it still works and plays DVD's and you have the remote. I would keep using the way it is. It would cost more to fix the unit than to just replace it. Blessings, A/V Media Guy
To remove a background desktop theme from the list, simply erase the picture itself from their current location.
