Hi, This will only work if the drive with your new Windows installation is larger than the drive with your ghost image. Assuming that the above is true, do the following: Using disk management, create a partition on your hard drive which is large enough to accept your entire ghost backup. Restore your ghost image to this partition and then select any files or folders you may need. Once you have the necessary files you can delete the partition again if need be and use it for other storage purposes. Let me know if you need any further assistance regarding the above. Go into a DOS shell and find the directory and wipe it clean.
You may have to use some ancient dos commands to make some of the parts visible, like ATTRIB
You may have to ATTRIB +R +S +A +H (Read System Archive Hidden) to make your deletions work.
Now, I have not exactly spelled out how this works, intentionally, in the event that if you don't feel comfortable working at DOS level with line commands, you should turn the work over physically to someone who does feel comfortable. If you understood what I wrote above then go ahead and DIY!
two software I've used previously are Norton Ghost and Drive Image but I don't believe you can image to an external drive. you might want to research on a newer version of norton ghost. they might have driver for external drive. Both of these software can be purchase online and download it. Hope this helps..
