Don't forget that there is a switch that toggles the display from internal to external display (possibly Fn+F5).

Make sure brightness and contrast are fully up. Try attaching an external monitor. If that works then ask if you really need a laptop, if you do then replacing monitor cable, invertor and screen in that order should cure it. You may find second hand parts cheaply on Ebay. If you get no picture then you would need to change the mainboard, as the graphics chip has probably failed.

Is windows 7 compatable on a toshiba laptop a105-s171

From what I understand, windows 7 requires atleast 1 gb of ram to run properly, judging by your standard system specs you have 512 mb of ram. Unless you have added some ram or plan to add some to your system then no I dont believe you will be able to upgrade and run windows 7 efficiently.

I can't hear sound from my laptop even with the builtin speakers. It's a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4064.

On the front of the laptop there is a circular knob, play a music cd and then turn the knob from left to right and see if the sound comes back, if that doesn't work then make sure where the speaker is in the bottom right hand side of the screen click on it and make sure the volume is turned up.

If it still doesn't work then reload the sound drivers. At this point if the sound still won't work then that means that either the speakers or the motherboard is bad and you won't know for sure unless you replace the speakers first.

Toshiba A105 will not boot up even with cd and f12

its not a booting issue if you hear the music, it loaded windows. you might have a display issue, shine a light on it to see if you can see any faint images, if you can the backlights out if not it might be the display adapter on the MOBO, in either situation calling toshiba would be required for a repair, or otherwise take it into a shop, but first try a power reset,

unplug it and remove the battery, then hold the power button down for one minute, replace the battery and power cord and try to boot again. if this fails call toshiba, its definately a hardware issue.

LCD display problem

My Toshiba Satellite does a similar thing, It goes gray while I am working on it. The only way to continue to work on it is to complete shut it down manually and reboot. I took it to Toshiba they said nothing was wrong.
