Tv picture shuts off but sound remains

I can shut the tv off wait 30 seconds, turn it back on and it is ok for 5 minutes then the same thing happens over and over again. If the tv has been off for some time it takes a while for the problem to start happening again. I have unplugged the tv and tivo and it does not seem to make any difference.

Turn on TV and picture and sound are great for about 60 seconds. Then the picture disappears but sound remains.

I would start with checking the power supply 12vdc output, make sure it is stable with no ripple. If the power supply checks out fine, I would then suspect the main board.

TV goes to green, sound stays on a few seconds then TV shuts off.

Sounds like you have a bad picture tube. More than likely the CRT could be shorted, which would cause the set to shut down.
My first advise would be to power up the set with an isolation transformer with the voltage about 60% approx. 72 Volts AC, and monitor what happens when you increase the voltage slowly.
If the set remains on at 60 -70 %, then when increased to 90 - 100% it shuts down, you have something drawing too much current ( which could be the CRT )

Picture but no sound on my Vizio L37 Flat Screen

I had the same thing just happen and I used the following instructions from the Vizio Website for "humming sound" on tv and it worked. My sound is now working!!!!

1- Power off TV

2- Unplug TV from outlet

3- Press and hold in the power button on the TV for 30 seconds (while it is unplugged from the wall)

4- Release the power button

5- Plug in the TV into a different outlet

6- Power the TV back on.

Reset the TV settings.
