I can shut the tv off wait 30 seconds, turn it back on and it is ok for 5 minutes then the same thing happens over and over again. If the tv has been off for some time it takes a while for the problem to start happening again.
I have unplugged the tv and tivo and it does not seem to make any difference.

this just happened to us, we tried the reset button, didn't work. we unplugged from surge protector and plugged the tv in the regular wall socket and after a few minutes the green light quit and we were able to turn tv on
Sounds like you have a bad picture tube. More than likely the CRT could be shorted, which would cause the set to shut down. My first advise would be to power up the set with an isolation transformer with the voltage about 60% approx. 72 Volts AC, and monitor what happens when you increase the voltage slowly. If the set remains on at 60 -70 %, then when increased to 90 - 100% it shuts down, you have something drawing too much current ( which could be the CRT )
