I recently moved to a new computer, downloaded the palm software, plugged in the sync device in the USB port. I could sync and access the info on the device but not on my computer because it asked for a user name which obviously I am not guessing correctly. Can you help me retrieve this? Also, the screen of my handheld device now only shows info on using the stylus and will not allow me to return to the main screen or any other info. So now I have no access to any of the information (addresses and calendar) on either the handheld or on my computer.
Go thru the stylus calibration .. set the clock and/or push next .. then push done .. that will get you back in operation .. click on the "Home" button until you see the "hot sync" icon .. click "hot sync" .. your user name is at the top right corner of that window .. just click "home" again to get out of that window ..

Hi you could either have a problem with the lead witch is the cheapest problem to solve the other problem is with the palm top itself if this is the case then you will need to send it off to get the firmware updated you cant do this yourself because you cant get the correct software to do this you might even need to put the device in recovery mode to install the latest firmware so it will need sending off to do this if you contact customer support number for your device then they should tell you the best way of doing this ok
its likely the battery has just gone bad .. a new battery is not expensive but you need a small torx tool to get it open .. the m515 is still a nice machine for some, so donating it to Goodwill or other charity will do a lot of good for several people .. you can just drop it off at most places.. put everything in a box so it doesnt get seperated ..
the m515 uses a Lithium battery .. the modern version of those batteries have a built in safety feature .. once its first activated then it monitors its own voltage .. if the voltage is ever allowed to go below a certain value then it will refuse to accept a charge ... when it tells you that the battery is dead its actually well above that critical voltage .. but if you let it sit for a long time then self discharge can bring it below the critical value .. when the battery is in that forbiden region then there is a chance that it will grow copper links through its insulator .. then when you try to charge it it could get very hot .. even explode .. so thats why the safety feature .. there are ways to jump start the battery and some people do that .. but you can see there is some risk .. the battery in that palm is not hard to change and they are not expensive but you need a very small torques driver to get the case apart .. i just took my 515 to the hardware and had them match it up with the proper tool .. there are kits available also that have a new battery and the proper tools to take the m515 apart .. of course they cost more..
make sure you have the external charger hooked up to the cradle .. it wont charge from the USB port voltage as i recall on this model..
HI, Yes you will need to install the Palm Desktop software on your computer or your laptop. Here is a link to the Palm Support site where you can download the software that you need. If you need any other help please let me know. Best wishes.
Check your USB ports with another device like a flash drive.
Reset your USB ports:
Here is what you can do to refresh the USB ports: 1. Right click MY COMPUTER 2. Select PROPERTIES 3. Select HARDWARE 4. Select DEVICE MANAGER 5. Select UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS 6. Right click on each USB CONTROLLER and select Uninstall 7. Uninstall all entries 8. Reboot your computer 9. As your computer re-boots it will reinstall all USB connections it detects THEN, when all other USB items have been configured and connected by the system, you then should try connecting your USB drive.
If your USB ports are working, download and install the new version of Destop Manager and HotSync @
reset your TX before you attempt to sync it with the PC after you download the new version of the software.
Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
Hi yes the plug into the cradle if this is fine then the firmware could have become corrupt due to virus or some data getting change this can happen. The other thing you can try is remove all the software off the computer then plug the usb in and see if your computer tells you in a pop up box that new device has been found. If it says this then the chances are its software of firmware problem ok. If your computer dont give you pop up box telling you new device connected then the try another usb port to rule out the usb port being the problem or try a different device in the usb port to make sure its working fine. If your computer dont pick the palm up then the problem is more likely to be hardware related like port on palm damaged or even internal parts failing inside the palm. So just try plug it into usb port and see if your computer picks it up look under my computer and see if its listed their then let me know ok
I have a similar problem with my m515. I have 3 palms and 2 sync fine but the 3rd isn't even getting to the computer. There is no recognition from the computer that the palm is trying to sync even though I use the same cradle for all palms. The ensuing message is, "the connection between your handeld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again". My settings are set Local and Cradle/Cable.
I was having a similar problem with my M515. I had originally installed the Palm Desktop from my CD, which was an older version. When I totally uninstalled the old version and installed the newer version from the Palm website I was able to do a successful sync. I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate and Palm Desktop version 4.1.4
