This is a failure of the backlight circuits either the lamps or the inverters circuits are failing. This requires a return to the dealer or service center for servicing. Hope this helps you .

My JVC model AV-20F476 has a black-out box that covers most of the bottom half of the screen.

Go into menu and under CLOSED CAPTIONS look to see if TEXT is engaged---if it is set to text 1 turn it off or to text 2,3,4, etc

Text was a feature never really used but it is there, some cable boxes also have this setting/feature.

Let me know if you have questions.

Black bar on the top and bottom during watching the tv

Hello

If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.

If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.

If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver

Turned on ti 86 and have a black screen. I have replaced all of the batteries and still is black.

Whenever the screen is full and a line with calculation result comes up at the bottom of the screen, the screen all of a sudden shows things in a weird way and can't be read. By press "2nd+mode"(=quit), or try reset button (a small hole which a pin can only be used to press it to RESET. Gud Luck

It shows picture not in full screen like the movies black screen at top,in middle is the picture, black screen at bottom

If this happen on DVD's it is because the DVD is formated to Widescreen, 16x9 size, your TV is 4x3 size. Unless the Menu has an option of Picture size, or Format, to set to Full screen. there is nothing you can do other than be sure to check the DVD for picture format size before purchasing.

My monotor its all black but u can

This should be an (LCD) screen. They are the ones that usually have this kind of problem. You will need to take it to have it checked if the problem is the VGA signal cable leading to the monitor. They will check if it is properly connected or has gone bad. It is very unlikely that the screen is bad. When this VGA signal cable goes bad it could result in a totally blank screen.

When watching any DVD's with my Samsung HT Q100 DVD player there is a black band at the top and bottom of my Sharp 42 inch LCD screen- what settings do I need to change to get these removed?

Normally dvd's have a widescreen and full screen option somewhere in the settings menu. Try to find these two options and just switch to Full screen.
