I bought a LightSnake, a mic-to-USB cord. It came with an installation disk, which I installed. Plugged in my M-Audio Nova mic that I picked up from a pawn shop. I'm using a Windows 7 laptop. It recognizes the microphone, but there is no green bar, it seems as though its not picking up sound? I even tried the "set up mic sound" option, but it just wont pick up sound. I have the mic enabled in the sound settings, and I have the right playback settings all figured out.. but why cant I record? I'm trying to use Audacity to record. I tried recording on the default recorder that came on the computer with no luck. HELP!! :(

SOURCE: cannot record

Im having the same probz, got a Hp Pavilion Vista using mobile pre amp usb when i record using a condenser mic XLR nothing is picked up from the channels in Cubase or Nuendo. Im trying to record vocals but the Mic is not picked up and i cannot hear myself in the headphones and it wont transfere to cubase.

It has worked before when i had a desktop, but this only worked with a separate m-audio sound card inside the desktop and i plug in the output jax leads from the desktop (soundcard) to the m-audio usb pre amp

Is this why it is not working for the laptop do i need a Jax connection and where is this audacity

SOURCE: I have set-up M-Audio microphone

Without knowing your setup or the mic model, my guess is that you need to run a phantom power supply to the mic to get it to function. This is done either by using an outboard analog mixing console or mic preamp with a phantom power switch, or using an inline phantom power supply. The microphone plugs into the mixer or mic pre with the phantom turned on, and then into your DAW system.
The phantom power works with condensor microphones like the one you have. It sends a 48v signal to the microphone element, which in turn energizes the element and makes it function. Dynamic mics, like a Shure SM 58 for example, do not need the phantom power and will even ignore it if run on a phantom powered channel. condensor mics however must have it to function, otherwise there will not be any sound. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Logitech mic 600 wont work computer dont even show its plugged in

Manually install it or if you have a disk with it load that and choose where its hooked up at or try another plug in if its usb capable. Your mic jack might be messed up also if it doesn't plug into your usb. Plug and Play usually picks up on whatever you plug in. If all else fails press F2 before boot and under the BOOT tab make sure its plug and play accessible Press F10 and continue with bootup and see if works

I know that the m-audio nova is a studio recording microphone , but i would like to know why it is not recommended for stage use ?

I would guess that the mic is a condensor type. These mics are much more sensitive to transients, and they tend to pick up a lot of ambient sound around them. In contrast, dynamic mics, such as the Shure SM 58 have become the standard live mic because their pickup pattern and response tend to be concentrated close to the singer, thus rejecting the ambient noise that condensors pick up. The live sound environment is very different acoustically than the controlled studio environment, and therefore, mics are chosen to accommodate the different acoustics.

Hello, i recently bought a new motherboard a Gigabyte GA-8I915P for no reason the mic doesn't work, I've already installed the latest audio drivers for this motherboard, the speakers work fine but why...

Maybe it's not recognized. Unplug every audio device, open Realtek HD Audio Manager and start plugging them back one at a time, the manager should automatically detect that something was plugged in a specific port. Just tell it what you have plugged.
