PSP not recognizing games? I put the game into the PSP, scroll to Game and enter, but only the game sharing, saved data utiliy and memory stick icons appear. The UMD icon does not show up. I have reset to default settings, deleted some data on the memory stick, cleaned disks, and tried different disks.
What I do is pop open the game drive and very carefully syick a Q-tip in there with lens cleaner on it and give it a gentle rub. Sometime dust gets underneath the lens and for this I use a vacuum cleaner while holding a straw at the end of the nozzle. I havent done this to a PSP but I have done it to a PS3, PS2,various CD players, and DVD players. But I DONT recommend it if you dont feel confident about doing it.

Hi there. Try doing this;
1. Turn off your PSP (long press switch).
2. Press and hold "R" while switching on your PSP and you'll boot into Recovery Menu
3. Scroll down to "UMD Mode" and press "X" until the value changes to "S0NY NP9600"
4. Go back and exit to boot your PSP in game mode...
I hope this helped...
This is the XMB its the main menu of the system. Games will be located under the Controller Icon. To play games insert a UMD, or if a game is downloaded and saved on the memory card, go through the icons under Controller icon. A disk icon will appear and show a preview screen to the game, press X to start the game.
If you have custom firmware, make sure your "execute boot.bin" and "plain modules" are both disabled under your advanced configuration settings of the recovery menu. Also, make sure your ISO/CSO games are saved in the ISO Folder of your memory stick and that your UMD MODE is set to NO UMD REQUIRED. Your PBP Games should be saved in your PSP/GAME Folder.
If memory serves (I lost my PSP while moving) the UMD menu only appears when a UMD is inserted and recognized. If a UMD is inserted but the menu does not come up then either the UMD is bad or the laser is defective.

You have to scroll down a little bit, the umd icon is just underneath the gamesharing icon actually.
Have you inserted the game disc UMD into the PSP itself? You have to wait a few seconds after you turn it on before the game icon will be visible in the main menu screen before you can access the game. When it's active and you have the game icon selected press the "X" button to start the game.
