Question about Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver

2 Answers

The subwoofer is not working on our Bose 5.1 surround speakers.

Have set up a Pioneer 50' plasma Elite and the Yamaha RX-V663 receiver with our Bose 5.1 surround speaker system. The front 3 speakers work and the back right speaker works. The subwoofer and the back left speakers do not work. We have checked the connections and at one point the back left worked but then the front left didn't and still the subwoofer didn't work. We have made sure that in the speaker setup on the receiver all the speakers are indicated as large. Any Idea's?

First of all you should never indicate speakers as Large unless they can produce below 20Hz (which is very low), otherwise always set your speakers to Small.

Second, did you also indicate in teh setupmenu that you have a subwoofer? Because if all speakers are set to Large some receivers will omit a subwoofer because Large indicates the speakers can reproduce all sounds even below 20Hz.

So walk through your setup menu, say YES when the sub (SFW) is asked for and that should do the trick.

I have the same exact Yamaha receiver run with a Bose Acoustimass II system, running in 5.1 surround sound.

The front three speakers and subwoofer would always work. But
somtimes either both or just one of the rear speakers wouldn't work. Obviously when I would turn it on and this was happening I would go through and check all the RCA and bare wire connections, everything looked good. I had other family members who would visit me fairly regularly. I asked them if they had messed around with the settings at all. They said no, they said, "All I do it turn it on and turn it off." I asked them to show me how they were turning it on and off. One said, "When I turn it on I push the Main On button on the receiver itself and I hit the same button to turn it off." Then I started think about it and this problem would usually happen after they had visited.

I found when you power on it's fine to hit the Main On button on the receiver or the POWER button on the remote, but if you don't power down with STANDBY I would have this problem reoccur every time.

Since I've told everyone who visits the proper way to power on and standby off, I have not had a problem since.

Another problem I encounted, the front right of the five would not work from time to time. The room I use this in is small for the system to I run in negative volume most of the time. But I found if I crank it up to "+" it would then start working again. After that I could turn it back to "-" volume level and it would still work, wierd.

I have a Yamaha RX - V665 and the right rear surround works only part of the time.

Start by using an old test speaker and connect it directly to the right surround output with a short wire and monitor it.

If it sems to work with no issues, you either have a bad connection at receiver or speaker, or a break in the speaker wire somewhere.

If you have the same problem with the test speaker, you have a rgt. rear output issue in the receiver and it needs repair.

Hope this helps

Bose Acoustimass 15 subwoofer is completely dead.

Clarify, did it ever work for you? Were both receivers used properly configured for the subwoofer? Did you also test the other speaker moduels running off the subwooferto see if they work?

Speaker Receiver setting
• Left and right LARGE
• Center LARGE
• Left and right surround LARGE
• Center surround* LARGE
• LFE/Subwoofer ON
With an Acoustimass 16 Series II system or upgraded Acoustimass 15 Series IlI system only.

Front speakers no sound!

Most likely you have pressed the speaker AB switch, try pressing it again and see if it works.

Which subwoofer????

Cameron,
I have the same problem, check these link and you will understanding more how it works. My understanding was bose cube cannot work with other receiver directly, it has to be work with bose's woofer (they call module) and they have specific wire to connect. So I give up to switch to bose even they match my deco and go back to traditional. Good luck.

Hooking up a Logitech Z-2300 subwoofer to a Yamaha RX-V392 receiv

This is the exact same setup im lookng at, just a different Yamaha receiver (RX-V663). Since the 3.5mm headphone jack and and the sub preout are both 'line level' you just need to pick up a male RCA to female 3.5mm jack converter from radioshack. I'd expect it to be around $5-8.

I have already stripped my old 5.1 HTIB system rca connector to use the surround speakers with my receiver. They work but are cheap speakers. Im tempted to do something similar with the z-2300 speakers, much higher quality, but I would definitely use a converter instead of stripping to keep them backwards compatible.

Yamaha RX-V663 - HDMI doesn't work.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a workaround:
  • as you posted, audio out of the DVD goes to the receiver;
  • HDMI out of the DVD goes to the Schaub Lorenz LCD.
Even if it were a compatibility issue or HDMI processor issue on the receiver, the above should get you going.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
