There are some loos cables. Try unseating the RAM, clean it & put it back. Check that all power and IDE cable along with the 24 power pin is snug tight. Reboot and try to enter BIOS. Set evrything to default and try to boot in safe mode and then "last when it worked best". That should do it, else try booting from CD and repair the OS......sodeep

Toshiba satellite turns on but power light blinks and screen is blank

Start as basic as you can, remove everything you can, RAM, HDD, modem (if equipped), WiFi card, optical drive, etc. It should beep when powered up, complaining about missing RAM. Install RAM and see if you can get it to POST. If so, install 1 item at a time until it stops working. Bad part found.

If it doesn't complain about the ram, it's probably a bad system board. If it does complain, but doesn't post with the RAM in, it could be still be a bad stick of RAM or a bad RAM socket on the board, try one at a time, and in each of the sockets.

BIOS error, System Failure, Boot failure? ? Lets FIX it.

I guess everyone working on a computer is familiar with the word BIOS and what exactly it is? Still let me tell that BIOS is intelligent software that enables the system to start. I need not to mention that system here refers to computer. Bios facilitate the booting of a system without human intervention. BIOS is a program that is installed in a hardware chip known as ROM chip.

This single word matters a lot to most of the users who face various problems when their system failed to start normally or make some unusual activities. Each time I visit any technical forum I see a lot many users posting their problem regarding BIOS. I researched on internet about BIOS errors and from my knowledge and experience I am posting this piece of help for those who find themselves helpless in getting a solution to BIOS problems.

Sometimes BIOS itself provide a troubleshooting to most of the problems. When you power ON your system it give beep sound. Checkout some beep codes
1 short Beep indicates System is OK (Acceptance Beep)
Continue long Beep tells RAM Problem
1Long 3 Short Beep confirms RAM Problem
2/3/4 short Beep --its time to Check the RAM & Video Card

By now most of you have found some clue about the problems you are facing. Now learn about POST faults
1) K/B Error/ NO Keyboard present
· Check the loose cable connector
· Cable may be bad (Keyboard)
· K/B itself may be bad
· Check the physical condition of K/B connector on M/B
· If all these are ok & problem is still processed
· Than replace the keyboard port

2) Floppy disk drive Fail
· loose data & power connector of FDD
· Data cable may be bad (FDD)
· Load the CMOS defaults
· Floppy disk drive itself may be bad

3) CMOS Checksum error
· CMOS battery has gone bad replace it. (Weak)
· Check the CMOS jumper it may set on clear
· If the entire ok than check the CMOS battery jack, it may be bad

4) Invalid System Disk, Insert System Disk & Press enter when ready/ NTLDR is Missing
· Check the root directory; it may be formatted or missing bootable files.
· Repair the Windows or Reinstall the operating system.

5) Disk Boot failure, Insert System Disk & Press enter when ready
· Hard Disk check in POST Detected or not
· If not Detected Check the power cable
· Check the Master/Slave jumper setting.
· Also check BIOS setting

6) Computer gives message: Your computer has a serious problem
Back up your data & replace your Hard Disk
This error message is displayed due to the SMART option. This scans the HDD for errors, if it detect the errors than it show the above message. Follow the error message & back up your data on to another drive.

I tried to explain most of the problems along with their solutions. There could be a lot more solutions for the problems. Make your own search and try to fix BIOS problems at your own home.
Forward this to all those who need help!!

My computer turns on. all fans working but will not boot. no beeps.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Philips screwdriver
  • Small flashlight
  • Motherboard or system manual
  1. Listen for a series of beeps when you turn on this computer. These "beep codes" are listed in your motherboard's manual. The codes vary by manufacturer, but they can indicate problems such as non-functional memory sticks, a non-functional video display device, or non-functional or improperly attached input devices.
  2. Check for a green LED light on the motherboard which indicates the presence of an electrical current. Consult your manual for this light's location. If this LED does not light up, it's possible that your motherboard has been damaged. Possible causes include physical impact, power surges or a large static charge. If that is the case, your motherboard needs to be replaced.

If it is under warranty, consult the manufacturer (unless you have a warranty from the store where you bought the computer or motherboard, in which case you contact them). In the case of a power surge, any devices that were connected to the motherboard at the time of the surge may also need to be replaced.
  3. Make sure the display screen's cables are secure. If you hear no beeps, and you have verified that the motherboard is operational, it's possible that your display screen is not functioning (something that the motherboard cannot detect). The problem may be as simple as a loose or faulty cable. If these are secure, try alternate cables if available. If you have another desktop or laptop nearby, try plugging your display screen into those computers to verify that the display is operational.
  4. Take a look inside the case with the power off, and look at how the video card is attached to the motherboard (unless your video is integrated into the motherboard). If the card is at even a slight angle to the board, you need to push it down gently but firmly until it is at a full right angle. Verify that the video card's fastening device (usually a small screw but sometimes a latch) is present and flush.
  5. Look at the rectangular memory sticks, usually found in between the CPU (Central Processing Unit, which will have a large fan on it) and the storage devices. These sticks also need to be flush. They will click into place when they are properly seated. Try removing one stick (unless you only have one), and starting the computer. Sometimes the stick is faulty, other times the slot is faulty.
  6. Check your storage device connections. Your hard drive needs to have an internal power cable coming from the power supply, plus a data cable going from the drive to the motherboard.
please comment on this post stating how it helps you with your computer

Before booting 3 long beeps 10 sec silent then 3 long beeps and so on

This is an issue that one of the devices is not properly seated on the board or it is not detecting them correctly.

To fix:

1. Remove all devices from the board. All cables coming from Hard drive/CD-rom. Remove the RAM and processor. LEAVE TH E POWER SUPPLY CABLES CONNECTED TO THE BOARD.

2. Re-seat the processor on the board.

3. Re seat the memory on the board.

4. Now re-seat the video card making sure that you push it firmly in place. Connect a monitor to the video output.

Try and boot the computer. If it boots and you see output on the screen then the issue is fixed.
If if does not boot you have a problem with one of the following: RAM, Processor, Video Card, or motherboard.

The picture doesn't appear..plz help (not hdmi) evry thing else seems fine.

If you have already checked to ensure that the cables are firmly connected, the nest thing to try is another cable of the same type to see if the cable is the problem. If that doesn't resolve the issue then try and let the PS3 find the proper resolution automatically. Make sure your cables are firmly connected. Then turn on the POWER with the switch on the unit not on the remote. Keep holding down the power button until you hear a beep which should be about 5 seconds. You may have to try it a few times until you hear the beep. The PS3 will then automatically sense the cable connection as well as your display's native resolution. If that doesn't work then you likely have an internal issue. Unfortunately there are a number of problems that can cause the audio no video issue. At that point you would be better off having your local PS3 shop do a diagnostic on your machine. Most shops will probably charge you an hours labor to do the tests

Pc boots but no display. tried a new video card, still wont work. ram or motherboard?

Hi.
To start the troubleshooting,
Do one thing.
Clear the cmos.
To clear the cmos, remove the battery and the cmos jumper. You will see JCC on the mb and it is attached to pin 1&2
You can Short it to pin 2&3 or remove it completely.
Don't forget to remove the power-cord from the power supply while clearing the cmos. together with the cmos bat & jumper.
After that try a different ram and a different vga card.
At times dust get accumulated in the slot that prevent firm contact with the vga slot or the memory bank.
Use a clean paint-brush and blow away the dust on the card, the mem and also the slot in the mb.
Fix it firmly.
try this
If you need further assitance revert back
Good luck
