Update firmware I need firmware to make my Marantz UD5005 region free. Will appreciate if anyone posts link to download software. Thanks

Your best option might be to remove the chip and see if the firmware can be downloaded from it and then put back on the new chip. The service manual is here: Free download Marantz SR 4003 Service Manual (audioservicemanuals.com) and you can look for the part numbers on ebay etc to see if they have the jig to change the firmware after installation of the chip if you cant read it off the old chip.

Open the Internet browser and navigate to the Marantz.com website. Select "Products," then choose "DVD Players."

Select the DVD player you are currently using, then select "Manuals and Downloads." This lists all of the available updates for the Marantz DVD player.

Click the software update to download to your computer system

Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on the computer, then click "Start," "(My) Computer," then double-click the removable device icon. A window loads with all of the files stored on the flash drive.

Click-and-drag the software update into the open window, then close the window, right-click the removable device icon and select "Eject."

Disconnect the flash drive from the computer once the icon disappears.

Plug the USB flash drive into the USB port on the rear of the Marantz DVD player, then power on the device. The software update will upload onto the DVD player. A prompt on the television screen appears once the update has finished.

Side note: firmware is "miniature" software which runs an electronic device. Some electronic devices have updatable firmware that can be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site and re-programmed into the device. This is referred to as flashing the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) or EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory). A word of warning: if a firmware upgrade is interrupted due to a power outage or computer freezeup, the device may cease to function.

You need to update the firmware. You also need to know the model number of your bd player. Aquos is not enough.

If you are still happy with turning your BD not to region-free, but to your region, I can help you out as I did for my own BD 8002. It only takes 3 mins and the correct FW disc. Please let me know which region would you like to turn it to?
