Inop burner on new jenn-air JEC9530 elec flat cooktop

Please help. Have new (less than 2 year old) JEC9530 electric cooktop. The large right front burner suddenly stopped heating. Just quit. All other burners work fine. Before I call for repair service, wondered if anyone out there might have an idea on how to trouble shoot the problem. Did we burn a fuse? A wire come loose? How do I open the unit up to check? Thanks in advance. Doc

I have exactly the same problem. My unit is about 2 yrs old.

Just bought a house with this JEC9530 range top. We've been there two weeks and the front right burner stopped last night. Hoping to have it repaired under the warranty. It has been owned less than five years and completely replaced less than two years ago. I am guessing it was the same problem and am contemplating replacing with another manufacturer and unit depending on repair costs.

Good grief... Agree with previous poster - this should be recalled.

We also have the same difficulty. The right front burner just quit. We bought it two years ago this February. We bought a new burner and it still doesn't work. Should we waste the money on a new switch or just replace the whole thing?

I've had my cooktop for about 3 years..the front right Custom Control burner went out about 6 months ago...I'm glad I came across this site before I start throwing good money after bad on the replacement part 1194705. When looking at that switch I think that there is too much heat generated by that burner that ultimately fries the circuit board.
I spoke with the Jenn Air "Chat line" who gave me a total run around. She also stated that no one else has reported this problem.

I have the same problem. The burner on my JEC9530 stopped working after 9 months and now again after an additonal 12 months. This product has very low quality.

My fan is also too loud.

I bought my JEC9530 cooktop 3 years ago and the Custom Control burner is out for the second time. The first time the repair was fully covered under warranty, and the technician gave me the indication that this was a poorly designed part (the control switch) which had been redesigned. However, it is broken again. This time, they will only cover the cost of the part.

I purchased a 9530 cooktop april 2006,custom control lasted 11.5 months. It was covered under warranty and lasted 13 months. Now it's not covered and whirlpool claims no one has reported any problems with these switches. The other burners work fine.Is it possible to wire in a regular switch and just use the full element. If so please advise. thanx.

  • rboydston Nov 01, 2008

    same here
    purchase 1/22/05
    right front burner failed
purchased 5yr warranty that has 3-time repeat no-lemon guarantee.
we'll see how this works out.
does sound like a recall should be issued.

The right front dual burner on my JEC9530 quit working a few days ago. I haven't tried to repair it yet and am wondering if I should just forget about it and buy another cooktop.

  • Almost Handy Nov 08, 2008

Right front burner still working, however when you turn on full burner sometimes only middle comes on and you can hear crackling like there is a short in the switch. How do you get to the switch to replace it?

  • Anonymous Dec 31, 2008

I have the exact same problem. I am having the switch replaced. The replacement part is $180 and labor is $115. Another problem is that this control unit is unavailable. I have tried numerous places and they are all on back order.

I have found many people have posted and have the same complaint. Many have said after replacing the part the new part also failed. I am having second thoughts about replacing the part at all.

My front right burner just died tonight. The hot surface indicator light keeps blinking and the burner and fan won't come on at all. All other burners work fine. Glad (and angry) to see that mine isn't the only one.

I have a Jenn Air JEC9530 Coooktop and my front right burner also died yesterday. The hot surface indicator light doesn't light and the burner and fan don't work. All other burners work fine.

I highly recommend that everyone with this problem contact Jenn-Air @ http://www.jennair.com/customer_care/con... or call their Customer Service Dept @ 1-800-Jenn-Air to voice their displeasure with this product and ask for a free fix (both labor and materials). It's not fair that anyone should have to spend over $300 to fix a design flaw.

I'm having the same problem with my jec9530. The dual burner just quit working one day. I called jennair and they sent me a replacement "custom control" for free. 6 months later it quit again. I am now considering attempting to put an infinite switch (dual), part #PS786568 in its place. It is not electronic, and it looks like it is used for the jec9536 middle back dual burner. It is only $35, even if it doesn't work like the electronic one I don't care. My wife usually only uses both burners at the same time anyway.

If you don't mind not having independent controls for the dual burner I have solved the problem. I removed the "custom control" circuit board (junk) and replaced it with two new items: part number 1009577 Switch, infinite from RepairClinic.com and part number 2FBT6 Snap action thermo switch from grainger.com. This repair only took me 30 minutes. The thermo switch is for the hot burner indicator the one in that burner is designed for the electronic circuit and will not work. If you want more info I'd be happy to give you step by step instructions.

fixya100467, for some reason i am unable to reply to your answer. when i click on your question the system wants me to pay for my own answer instead of giving you the solution. I have pictures, part numbers and modified schematics to correct the problem, however, you need to give me a way to contact you.

    Best regards, Todd

I have the same problem right now.
My right front dual burner stopped working, but also the warmer(rear middle) stopped as well.
Has anyone had any luck with Jenn-air?
Thanks

I've had this cooktop for two years with the same problems and have a warranty with Sears. Sears has been out seven times replacing everything and it still shuts off while cooking. We were told by Sears that they have replaced everything so, there is really nothing they can do. Bascially we are making it up! So, just two days ago we video taped when the burner shut off while cooking and then called Sears and who knows what they are going to do next. The unit is faulty Jenn-Aire needs to recall it. Hope this helped.

Replace the Custom Control Kit - part # 1194705 from Repairclinic.com. It is the electronic control module for this burner and it costs $151. That's what I did to my 3 1/2 year old model which had this problem, and it worked again. But the new part lasted only four months and is dead again now.

There are quite a few reviews of this product on the web that talk about this particular failure, and it happening mulitple times to some or perhaps most people. No one has a real answer and apparently Jennair (Maytag) are not interested in dealing with it - apart from charging to replace the part.

JEC9530, dual element burner(right front) does not work the light does come on, the burner does not and the knob has play in it.

This coulb be either the switch or the burner. Either can be tested with an ohmmeter if you can read the wiring diagram. Hope this helps!

Burner temperature is always on high heat even at low setting

not related any further then sounds as if you have 2 burner switches gone bad,and actually the front right burner is controlled by a electronic control circuit board part retails for about $160-$200 part number 12002723, and left rear switch about $30 part number 74007841 . uint needs to be uninstalled from counter and parts changed by removing the bottom panel
