If the patterns of the black shades and lines are the same every time you use the scanner or copier, It could mean that the glass scan panel is dirty, and need to be clean. Also, look at the white pad that stuck below the lid, see whether there is stain or some dirty spots. Also, is the lid completely pressed down or there is a gap, it could be the optical issue If it is still doing the same thing, it could be the internal thing, you might want to play around with the contrast function to minimize the damage.

tkae out the print edge of the catridge by raising the lever
their is propably some clog that have blocked the ink from the black catridge unit by the catridge head
try to clean the encoders, both of them . these are small thin plastic like material that encodes data to print head, fisrt one runs on top of a catridge holder.and the second one is cyndrical at the far left side of the catridge holder.
Many problems regarding Ink with Epson relate to using cheap ink consumables. I recommend you buy original Epson black ink catridge. I know its more expensive but you should see the black ink clear.
Be sure to run head alignment and clean printer option first with the current black ink then replace with the new original Epson ink catridge
