I pushed the lid switch with a screwdriver and watched. The wash cycle is fine. The rinse cycle won't dispense the softener, but the water drains. The spin cycle doesn't move, even though it sounds like it is. The clothes are dripping wet.

Re: Maytag Atlantis 7600 spin cycle (top load)
The maytag runs in one direction for wash. it reverses to drain and spin - check for a broken or loose belt. maytags I have run into circa 1989 have two belts. as for the softener dispense, there may be a solenoid valve that is supposed to open. may be just a flapper type of valve. softener goes in by gravity feed.

Its either in the lid switch or timer. Examine the lid switch. Try starting the wash cycle and press in on lid switch to make sure it activates. If the lid switch is good and you dont hear the motor trying to activate during wash than its in the timer. Does the timer advance? Please comment me back If you need further assistance.
If it has a loud grinding noise, the pump shim is slipping up. It looks like a piece of corrigated cardboard inside the pully in the center of the underside of the tub. Use a flat screwdriver to GENTLY push it back into the pully and order a new pump as this is a temporary fix. The Atlantis is known for this, and the lid switch also. Good luck.
hi. i would check the lid switch fill the tub to low level let it start to wash stop the washer now put it to the spin cycle pull out knob close the lid slowly if it does not pump replace the lid switch now push on the lid. if it goes now .replace the lid switch .thanks te appliance doc. rate me please
The cheaper thing to check first is is your lid bent? The lid switch is in the center of the lid. If it "droops" or has been bent, it shaft on the back of the lid cant hit the switch. Open the lid and apply pressure in the bottom, center of the lid. This usually corrects the problem without replacing the switch.
